Game Designer – Enemy & A.I.
Reports to: Game Director
Permanent – Full-Time
What you will do
- Work with Directors to propose different enemy archetypes that meet the project's needs;
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including programmers, animators, and technical designers, to lead the prototyping and creation of memorable enemy archetypes;
- Ensure close communication with all members of the AI team to set clear objectives and highlight the specific needs of various game systems, providing regular updates to all connected systems;
- Regularly collaborate with other teams, especially the Combat team, to ensure that the combat dynamics between the player and enemy archetypes are of the highest quality;
- Participate in meetings with the assigned teams, organize brainstorming sessions, and promote collaboration with various directors to successfully carry out a vision and create robust and innovative design concepts;
- Implement the necessary processes to improve and streamline production and evaluate them;
- Quickly, clearly, and concisely document game mechanics and various features to serve as a resource for other disciplines in the project;
- Help identify key tasks and work with production and design teams to allocate resources to support each system.
What you bring
- Have 3+ years of experience in the video game industry as a game designer;
- Have at least one published title, preferably “next gen”;
- Hold a DEC or Bachelor’s degree in game design or a related field;
- Have experience in writing design specifications and tuning specific game systems such as AI, combat, and player control;
- Be able to conceptualize, present, and execute ideas within a given timeframe while actively participating in design and solving technical issues in the engine;
- Have a strong analytical mindset with the ability to simplify game design and systems for documentation purposes;
- Understand system constraints as well as the architecture of a game engine and its customizable tools;
- Demonstrate an organized approach to problem-solving and time management while meeting strict production deadlines.
Even better if you have
- Have experience working on a “melee combat game”;
- Have basic or advanced knowledge of Unreal Engine;
- Possess strong communication skills and be able to easily illustrate your ideas;
- Have the ability to lead a small multidisciplinary team on a weekly basis;
- Be able to multitask and parallelize your work;
- Collaborate with different disciplines (e.g., art, animation, programming);
- Be able to learn and share your knowledge;
- Show maturity in giving and receiving constructive feedback.
