Analyst, Sustainable Technologies

Major Responsibilities:

  • Aids in the design, construction, monitoring, maintenance and repair of electrical, plumbing, or other specific trade related installations for sustainable technologies
  • Develops study designs and specifies instrumentation required for field monitoring projects
  • Operates specialized equipment and tools to carry out assignments
  • Conducts data collection and assists technicians with equipment installation as needed
  • Provides support to keep equipment in a state of good repair and take a proactive approach to problem solving. Undertakes best practices when installing equipment
  • Prepares funding proposals and progress reports for project partners
  • Works with technical project partners to communicate STEP’s technical needs for each project
  • Works in collaboration with peers in the analysis and preparation of STEP related data including identification of quality assurance protocols, monitoring data for errors and inconsistencies, and analyzes data required for technical reports, decision support tools and presentations
  • Conducts research on advances in monitoring equipment and techniques relevant to area of technology specialization
  • Develops off-line and on-line tools that help facilitate use of complex data by end-users
  • Uses physical models to supplement field data analysis and study goals as needed
  • Develops scientific monitoring protocols and procedures for technology testing and verification
  • Aids in the organization of workshops and seminars related to water management, renewable energy, or green building, and assist in program development initiatives as required
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of industry best practices, more efficient processes and procedures and the innovative use of new technology

 

What will you need to succeed:

Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Engineering, Water Resources, Physical Geography, Environmental Science, Physics or a related field
  • Valid Ontario Class G2 driver's license

 

Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in a technology monitoring program or laboratory

 

Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies

  • Specialized mathematical abilities; often pertaining to the field of study for the role (e.g., dispersion rates, correlation calculations, descriptive statistics)
  • Ability to aggregate data sets from multiple sources, assess data quality by developing data standards and normalize the data for use in further analysis
  • Able to comprehend documentation that is technical or scientific in nature, skilled in writing technical reports or manuals
  • Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Demonstrates responsive to internal and external customer requests and needs
  • Ability to use critical thinking to evaluate problems, gather information, understand causes, and identify best possible solutions
  • Excellent computer proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, WebEx, and SharePoint
  • Knowledge of best management practices, and up-to-date knowledge of mitigation and controls, as well as safe work procedures
  • Collaborates with others to focus on objectives and effectively delegates work within a team
