Together, we’re a team of progressive thinkers and agile doers operating within a fast-paced culture of collaboration and respect. We believe in bringing smart and capable people together to create, solve and grow

with a clear shared vision and values of integrity, inclusivity, ingenuity, and impact.

Our culture is intentionally welcoming and purposefully rooted in equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation (EDIR). We believe diverse teams, perspectives, and lived experiences contribute to better decisions and a better workplace.

As a long-term investor, we recognize that environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) factors support risk management and value creation. As stated in our Responsible Investing Policy, we are committed to incorporating ESG considerations into our investment management activities and we collaborate with other industry participants in the promotion of a sustainable economy and society.

Join us in building a bright future for our members, our organization, and each other.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a Summer Student, Legal and Governance to join our team in Summer 2025 (May to August 2025). This role will be part of a supportive and dynamic Legal and Governance team, reporting into the Senior Legal Counsel. The individual will be responsible for supporting various Legal and Governance functions such as completing legal research and analysis, drafting and negotiating contracts, advising on pension investment transactions, drafting corporate policies, developing precedents and other knowledge retention tools, and suggesting continuous improvements for internal processes.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a student to gain valuable work experience in a fast-growing environment while being a part of a pension plan. Through UPP’s non-rotational summer program, the successful candidate will gain exposure to a broad cross-section of areas of law relevant to an organization with investment and client service functions, including Corporate & Commercial, Privacy, Technology, Pensions, Employment and Investments (among others). We are a small and collaborative team, and you will be working closely with business partners and have an unparalleled opportunity to develop an operational and commercial lens.

UPP is based in Toronto’s financial district and has a hybrid work model (~2 days / week in office).
