Fire & Life Service Technician, SCBA

Levitt-Safety has an exciting opportunity for an experienced SCBA Technician to join our Team in Oakville, ON.

The ideal candidate will provide customers with the highest quality service, repair, and maintenance for SCBA systems, breathing air compressors, and other life safety equipment.

 

This position will be based out of the Oakville branch and will involve a combination of shop and remote service at various customer locations throughout the GTA and Southwestern Ontario.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt, efficient, and high-quality services to all existing customers, ensuring satisfaction and long-term business relationships.
  • Inspect, maintain, and service SCBA systems, breathing air compressors, fall protection equipment, and other critical life and safety equipment, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform detailed inspections, repairs, filling, routine testing, and maintenance of SCBA bottles and extinguisher cylinders, ensuring they meet industry regulations/manufacturers’ standards and are ready for use.
  • Process and manage the pick-up and return of gear and equipment to customers, ensuring accurate tracking and prompt service completion.
  • Conduct fit testing, annual flow testing of all SCBA units, and maintain an accurate inventory of SCBA parts and associated equipment, adhering to industry standards and regulations.
  • Work closely with customers to expand the scope of work across all applicable service capabilities, developing efficient and mutually beneficial work schedules and plans.
  • Enter and maintain records of all equipment and gear in the system, updating software and tools to meet current standards, while effectively managing inventory levels and maintenance databases.
  • Ensure service vehicle is properly maintained, including necessary documentation like dangerous goods paperwork and commercial vehicle logbooks.
  • Complete all required HSSE reports, conduct daily safety checks in line with company policies, COR and ISO procedures, and actively engage in health and safety programs.
  • Collaborate with service coordinators to schedule service work and maintain appropriate inventory levels, ensuring efficient and uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all necessary paperwork, including inspection reports, safety records, and expense reports, maintaining compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Be available for after-hours callouts as needed, to provide critical support and meet customer needs.

 

Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience or training in compressors, SCBA inspection, repairs, and cleaning.
  • Basic electrical knowledge and hands-on experience with power and hand tools.
  • A valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with technology and mobile devices.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Physical Safety Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted, coupled with good hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Able to pass pre-employment and periodic drug and alcohol testing as well as criminal background checks
