Based in Montreal and reporting to the Vice President of Construction, the Construction Accountant will be responsible for managing the accounting of construction projects, ensuring compliance with industry-specific regulations (CCQ, CNESST, site taxes, etc.).
- Manage the accounting of construction projects, including cost tracking and payment management.
- Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Verify the compliance of documents from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Prepare payments to suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring adherence to approvals and contractual requirements.
- Submit payment files to the President for final review and approval.
- Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure the submission of required documents before payment (CCQ and CNESST compliance letters, waivers, etc.).
- Conduct analysis and verification of subcontractors and suppliers before awarding contracts.
- Ensure compliance with CNESST requirements and submit necessary declarations.
- Manage contractual holdbacks, bonds, and insurance.
- Prepare financial reports and closely monitor construction budgets.
- Perform bank reconciliations and manage project-related tax compliance (QST, GST).
- Collaborate with auditors during financial audits.
- Contribute to the improvement of financial and administrative processes related to construction.
Qualifications:
- CPA designation (an asset)
- Significant experience in construction accounting (mandatory)
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards and regulations (CCQ, CNESST, applicable taxes)
- Strong proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage priorities effectively
- Ability to work in a team and interact with various stakeholders
- Attention to detail, autonomy, and strong analytical skills
