About the role

You are a seasoned journalist with a passion for local news with strong on-air and editorial skills. In this role, you will be a critical member of our editorial team, actively participating in the production of newscasts in two markets - 5:30 pm for Montreal and 6pm for Halifax and New Brunswick. You will help provide editorial feedback and guidance, building strong and positive working relationships with your colleagues through daily interaction. NOTE: This position could be in Halifax or Montreal. This is Group 4 position under the current Collective Agreement.

  • On-air presentation of multiple newscasts daily.
  • Assist in the planning, writing and execution of newscasts in multiple markets, showing strong editorial leadership.
  • Vet content prepared by colleagues and provided constructive feedback.
  • Chase guests, do research and develop questions for in-depth TV and online interviews.
  • Manage multiple deadlines across multiple markets.
  • Initiate and develop story ideas through contact development, research, and interviews.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Skills and experience you will bring:

 

  • Diploma/Degree in journalism, radio/television broadcasting or equivalent.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in television news reporting.
  • Strong news judgment and writing abilities.
  • Strong on-air presentation skills.
  • Ability to live from the field with strong presentation skills and clarity.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, in a deadline-driven workplace, with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows.
  • Working knowledge of French.
