Primary Focus
The Performance and Reporting Specialist plays a key role in leading corporate performance measurement activities and business intelligence initiatives, as well as supporting the annual business planning process. The Specialist will use analytics, reporting, project planning, and data visualization to help drive internal decision-making and support the organization to illustrate our work and our impact to a variety of audiences in different formats.
What do the daily responsibilities look like?
On any given day, the Performance and Reporting Specialist will:
- contribute to the development, implementation, and evolution of a performance measurement framework that defines how corporate performance is measured and used internally (including the development of indicators)
- monitor and assess organizational performance through a performance measurement framework by aligning policies, processes, methods, infrastructure, and practices with strategic goals and business priorities
- work collaboratively with internal teams to develop methods for the collection of performance data
- use data that has been collected via our internal databases, surveys, and/or through other sources to provide analysis (which may include descriptive statistics, forecasting, creation and maintenance of PowerBI reports)
- support the design and development/enhancement of innovative reporting solutions for corporate reporting. This will include:
- create automated tools based on business requirements to enable on-time delivery of reports with the aim of communicating essential information about our business performance to senior leaders (using PowerBI, Excel, PowerPoint, and other MS office applications)
- generate insights and presenting (orally and in writing) effective data-driven business recommendations to various partners through the use of storytelling, dashboards, impact stories, written reports, and/or data visualizations.
- ensure processes are in alignment with professional best practices and the requirements of the CDA-AMC-Health Canada contribution agreement and Member Services Agreements.
- prepare written reports for various audiences including the Board of Directors, executive and leadership teams, funders, other customers, collaborators, the public, and others.
- support the annual business planning process by working closely with the Manager to execute the process, which will include drafting timelines, drafting briefing notes/presentations, preparing meeting packages, and ensuring that timelines and critical milestones are met
- support formal, independent evaluations of the organization by informing project design and serving as an internal resource to the (external) evaluators
- Identify, document, and implement opportunities for improvement in data quality and business intelligence best practices
- conduct periodic internal evaluations of specific internal programs, projects and initiatives to assess and report on performance.
Is this the right role for you?
The Performance and Reporting Specialist will likely have:
- a postsecondary education in a health/health management-related discipline coupled with no less than 5 years of experience of related performance measurement and data analysis experience. Lived and/or work experience will be given similar weighting to postsecondary education
- strong technical skills in creating PowerBI reports that can streamline manual processes and inputs into an automated environment. Past experiences with another BI tool may be considered (however, please note that we are a Microsoft environment)
- knowledge of health systems, federal, provincial, and territorial government processes and relationships
- knowledge of program evaluation and performance measurement theory (logic model) and practice
- knowledge of data science principles (data cleaning, wrangling, maintenance)
- knowledge of annual business planning principles
- proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and can work on multiple initiatives and competing priorities simultaneously, while delivering high-quality products
- strong oral and written communication skills (briefing notes, reports, and presentations intended for senior leadership)
- ability to work collaboratively and influence others
- excellent attention to detail
- ability to effectively lead and facilitate discussions.
