Shift Hours: Monday to Friday; 6:30am – 3:30pm
SUMMARY
The Reefer Shop Manager plays a key role in planning and overseeing reefer shop operations. They ensure repairs are done accurately, efficiently, and cost-effectively on all shifts. They supervise technicians, communicate with third party support vendors, and set priorities for task assignments.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise reefer shop operations and personnel including training, performance management, hiring, discipline (in conjunction with Human Resources), answering employee questions and concerns, as well as ensuring the safety for all employees.
- Plan preventative maintenance checks and safety inspections to equipment.
- Ensure compliance with company standards for quality, cost control, waste reduction, safety, and vehicle availability.
- Schedule and plan shifts for staff as required. Work in conjunction with the Truck Shop Supervisor and Trailer Shop Supervisor to ensure appropriate personnel are available to cover all aspects of fleet maintenance.
- Provide driver on the road support, as well as support and advise other terminal shops on all reefer services.
- Maintain relationships with third party vendors, local providers and national accounts.
- Analyse, diagnose problems, and make decisions on repairs. Decisions on major repairs are made in conjunction with the Corporate Fleet Director & Baden Shop Manager.
- Work in co-operation with operations at the Baden terminal to ensure equipment availability.
- Address Occupational Health and Safety issues as related to the Shop.
- Support and advise other terminal shops on all reefer services as required.
- Monitor reefer parts and system inventories, new unit installations and decommissioned unit removals.
- Maintain and repair transport refrigeration units as required.
- All other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required, and a minimum 8 years of reefer experience.
- Factory training on Thermo King & Carrier preferred.
- Valid G class Drivers Licence required.
- Proven supervisory skills established through previous supervisory experience.
- Computer skills required (e.g. automated work order system, fleet maintenance costing, MS Office Suite)
- Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on quality, cost-effective fleet maintenance.
- Proven mechanical abilities with a strong working knowledge of mechanical application and repair techniques.
- Quality decision-making skills and ability to use good judgement.
- Excellent communication skills, verbally and written. Ability to provide positive feedback and constructive criticism.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Full-time, salaried position based on 45 hours per week.
- Position may be required to fill in when and where necessary, depending on the needs of the business.
- Position will be exposed to indoor and outdoor environments and may be subject to conditions such as: dirt, fumes, heavy machinery, fluctuating temperatures, and wet conditions.
