How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:

The Crew Leader performs field work, provides guidance and liaises with team members to coordinate field work and supports projects or ongoing resource management to ensure crews are focused on timelines, and priorities. They are responsible for overseeing and carrying out daily environmental inventory and monitoring fieldwork activities in support of TRCA’s research and monitoring programs and projects.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Carries out monitoring fieldwork data collection for bat exit surveys (rocket boxes, rock crevices, and buildings).
  • Coordinates staff field work, timeline requirements, site visits, and priorities; providing crew lead level work and health and safety direction.
  • Conducts inventories and monitoring fieldwork activities which includes:
    • Prepares daily equipment and vehicles for use, ensures all are in a good state for safe operation.
    • Prepares site following proper protocols, documents (including safety and other records) and identifies hazards and conducts safety meetings.
    • Installs and maintains acoustic monitoring equipment.
    • Collects and manages data, ensuring records are complete.
    • Maintains sampling instruments and equipment (calibration, storage & tracking, minor repairs).
    • Performs data entry into internal and external databases.
  • Contributes to environmental monitoring reports and/or data/results summaries.
  • Ensures the required site activities are completed as per work scope; ensuring health and safety protocols are followed by crews.

 

What will you need to succeed:

Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)

  • Completion of college diploma in Biology and Ecology, or a related field.
  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C Certification.

 

Experience

  • 2+ years of experience in implementation tasks in areas of specialization.

 

Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies

  • The ability to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills in a field environment.; is able to break down site required activities and delegate and estimate time / resources / budget required to complete tasks.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, related Regulations and legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret and apply ecological restoration plans, drawings, details and specifications combined with the ability comprehend written documentation and procedural guidelines.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including both day and night in adverse weather conditions; some weekend work may also be required.
