Supervisor, Survey, Drafting & Design
How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
The Supervisor, Survey, Drafting & Design is responsible for leading the delivery of TRCA’s internal survey, drafting and design services team, which is nested under the Restoration and Infrastructure Division. The Survey, Drafting & Design is an internal technical services provider that supports the delivery of corporate infrastructure projects. The Survey, Drafting and Design team gathers detailed land data through aerial, bathymetric, and ground survey techniques. This information is utilized to prepare topographical and as-built surveys, which serve as the foundation for landscape design and project planning.
Major Responsibilities:
- Oversees the data collection, drafting and design for various TRCA projects and programs, and occasionally as part of a special project for external partners, ensuring information is complete and accurate
- Serves as a lead technical subject matter expert for the drafting and design team; responsible for day-to-day department support as well as implementation of planned process improvements or changes
- Collaborates closely with the Information Technology & Records Management business unit on all matters impacting CAD and GIS systems
- Meets with internal and external stakeholders as required for project specific collaboration
- Oversees and supports with the drafting of in-house designs identified by project teams; provides input on design details
- Plays a key role in developing and implementing industry best practices, streamlining financial processes, and introducing innovative technologies. Regularly documents, analyzes, and updates drafting, design workflows, and business procedures to enhance efficiency and optimize operations.
- Leads a team of staff and ensures that team members understand expectations; communicates schedule, tasks and discusses priorities of items
- In collaboration with Human Resources:
- Manages team recruitment, selection and hiring of talenta
- Manages individual employee development and individual development plans, considering high performing staff and managing underperforming staff
- Recommends compensation performance adjustments
- Recommends individuals for promotions/transfers
- Supports a culture of workplace equity and inclusion that celebrates diversity
- Ensures resources are in place to manage day-to-day workload, providing immediate supervisors with recommendations for budget/resource requirements to meet future workload and project needs
- Ensures staff/volunteers/contractors, as applicable, comply with health & safety policies, and other TRCA policies, as applicable in various work environments
What will you need to succeed:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Land Survey, Geomatics, Civil Technology or a related field of study
- Certified Engineering Technologist or Certified Engineering Technician with Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists
Experience
- 4+ years of progressive experience in construction management, land survey, geomatic or a related field
- 1+ years of progressive managerial, supervisory or project management experience
Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies
- Advanced mathematical abilities (e.g., ratios, rates, percentages, basic geometry)
- Expertise in designing data visualization and enabling others to quickly grasp complex data concepts
- Influences decisions by presenting technical information and evidence in an appealing and easy to understand manner
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate project status for various audiences
- Demonstrates responsiveness to internal and external customer requests and needs
- Proficient using Autocad Civil3D, Microsurvey, Hypack Sounding software and other technology for the purposes of data collection and data processing
- Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, WebEx, and SharePoint
