About the Role:
We have an exciting opportunity to support our EMEA team as the Director of Operations Excellence, reporting to our Regional Director of Operations Strategy, based in the Netherlands. The Director of Operations Excellence shapes the in-restaurant and above restaurant Operational Strategy & provides strategic operations leadership for our Subway Market Operations territories throughout EMEA.
This role works closely with our Subway Market Operations (SMO) leadership on continuous improvement opportunities, ensures prioritisation of the central operations function, provide our SMO teams the necessary tools, systems, reporting and Franchisee support to be able to execute the broader business priorities.
This role will be a combination of both office (Amsterdam), field (EMEA Region) and home working which will vary depending on the business requirements week to week.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assume strategic leadership role as the primary internal Operations customer for the wider Operations team (e.g. Ops Tech and L&D) as well as all cross-functional interfaces and projects (eg Marketing, Culinary, Development).
- Ensure that operational strategy and key operational considerations are forefront in all initiatives impacting our restaurants and ensure a clear RACI is defined and supported so SMO (Field Operations) are empowered to focus on operational execution & driving performance of the business through Franchisees.
- Foster an environment of collaboration and inclusivity across functions to support EMEA standardisation as well as an efficient & effective approach to Franchise Support to drive consistently strong performance for the brand.
- In collaboration with other regional Restaurant Excellence teams, be responsible for setting the brand standard & expectation of above restaurant operations (Field Support) and developing the overarching strategy, tools & systems to support effective field team deployment for SMO leadership to deploy in execution of the brand strategy to drive performance.
- Act as the primary operations conduit to key SMO stakeholders to ensure that the field team have the necessary tools, systems, reporting & support from the wider business.
- Provide strategic leadership for innovation in our restaurant operations to ensure that our restaurants can meet the needs of both the current and future guest and are able to maximise the impact of new channels and/or category growth.
- Own the Equipment brand standard for the region as well as testing and approval processes for all EMEA territories.
- Work in close collaboration with Development, Construction & Design, Culinary, Suppliers, Marketing & Technology to support delivery of new product and operational processes that meet the business objectives.
- Lead development of our operating model with a view to unlocking efficiencies and maximising capacity, whilst ensuring simplicity of execution for our restaurant teams, exceptional guest experience and improved Unit Level Economics for our FZEs.
- Owner of the Regional (EMEA) Operations Manual and ultimate custodian of the brand standards for the region.
- Develop, maintain and continuously improve the REV programme to ensure it remains a realistic and competitive benchmark of operational performance for the region.
- Build capability in our operations team to meet the needs of the business now and in the future, as the requirement continues to evolve.
Qualifications (some examples listed below):
- Bachelor’s degree in Business/Technical Area
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in QSR, restaurant or food retail experience. Regional EMEA experience is advantageous.
- Ability to strategically lead and mentor region with a clear vision to address region's long term and short-term Operations opportunities.
- Good written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, investigative ability, ability to multi-task and work collaboratively with stakeholders.
- Mature & supportive leadership style with the ability to influence across all levels, excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Language requirements: Fluent in English – any additional language a plus.
