Who are we looking for?
We are currently seeking a Family Law Clerk for our Family Law department in Sarnia. This position will require you to provide support to a Family Law Associate. Our ideal candidate will have a post-secondary education (Legal Assistant/Law Clerk/Paralegal), will have a minimum of 1-3 years’ relevant experience, and/or a sound working knowledge of this area.
Qualifications:
- 1-3 Years relevant experience, and/or a sound working knowledge of this area.
- Post secondary education (Legal Assistant/Law Clerk/Paralegal)
- Sound administrative, time management, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and grammatical)
- Above average interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to be proactive and follow through.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work to deadlines.
- Above average keyboarding/computer skills (primarily Word and Outlook)
- Knowledge of the Family Rules and all relevant legislation including Divorce Act, Family Law Act, Children’s Law Reform Act
- Previous experience with Divorce Mate software is an asset.
- Above average interpersonal skills
- Superior communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Strong client service skills, and finally
- Exceptional docketing practices
Responsibilities:
- Opening and closing files
- Preparation of retainer and referral agreements
- Paying invoices
- Managing billing and accounting processes, including docket entry, preparation of client accounts and invoices
- Filing, scheduling meetings, client intakes, and day to day client communication
- Generating accounts
- General administrative tasks
- Organizing and maintaining files
- Drafting correspondence and limited court documents
- Routine communication with clients, opposing counsel, and the court
- Scheduling of appointments and court appearances along with overall management of calendar
- Assisting with trial and hearing preparation under supervision
- Preparation of retainers and referral agreements
