As Canada’s second largest science centre, Science North operates a multi-faceted operation in Sudbury, Ontario; including a busy onsite food court-style restaurant (1600 sqft – 80 seat capacity with adjacent patio), movie theatre concession area and catering for onsite functions and meetings throughout our multiple venues. The businesses contribute to our self-generated revenue and are critical in supporting the achievement of our strategic goals.
As the successful candidate you will report to the Senior Manager of Onsite Business and Services Development, and work to ensure exceptionally high-level standards on quality and service while maximizing business profits. You will assist in the implementation of business plans, coach and guide staff, manage onsite catering and oversee future development projects in order to continually grow the businesses. You will value working collaboratively, building relationships, creating a supportive and welcoming environment and be passionate about creating something to be proud of.
Position Highlights:
- Effective day-to-day management of financial, material and people resources
- Implementing and maintaining cost control systems, inventory management, menu planning & pricing, food costing, portion control
- Building and nurturing supplier relations and negotiating applicable contracts
- Managing budgets, including authorizing budget expenditures, managing wage costs, verifying, analyzing and preparing financial reports, streamlining operations
- Recruiting, hiring and training staff
- Implementing standards in terms of quality, consistency, branding, safety and hygiene
- Responding to customer inquiries and resolving complaints
- Creating, costing and executing restaurant and catering menus
- Creating special events menu packaging
- Anticipating and responding quickly to business and operational challenges that may negatively impact the Centre’s ability to achieve revenue targets and profit levels
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years experience in a similar position
- Professional cooking diploma or red seal certification
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong planning, organizational and time management skills
- Proven experience in cost control and inventory management in a food service environment
- Demonstrated ability to coach, motivate and inspire the best from a team
- Strong financial interpretation and analysis skills along with experience in cash management procedures and reporting
- Day, evening and weekend availability, smart serve certification (or the ability to obtain)
- Class G driver’s license with 3-year clean driving abstract
This position is based out of 100 Ramsey Lake Road, Sudbury and is not suitable for remote work.
