We are looking for an experienced and results-driven Manager of Special Events to oversee venue sales, event management, and client relations for Science North and Dynamic Earth. Each year Science North hosts countless events of all types: weddings, corporate conferences, holiday parties not to mention Science North events such as Nightlife on the Rock and Canada Day. As the Manager of Special Events you will play a pivotal role in maximizing sales, coordinating seamless events, and ensuring exceptional customer experiences. Your responsibilities in this role will include oversight and leadership across sales, client relations, event coordination, marketing, and operational support for events with a strong emphasis on meeting and exceeding profitability goals.
Here is how you will spend your time:
Sales & Event Management
- Develop and implement sales strategies, including upselling and cross-selling, to maximize revenue and maintain profitability.
- Foster positive relationships with clients, partners, and the community, serving as an ambassador for Science North at all events and external engagements.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to organize and execute events
- Lead the planning of event logistics, including setup, floor plans, and vendor management
- Optimize collaborative efforts with caterers and other service providers to enhance event quality
- Coordinate logistics and lead internal events such as Canada Day, Nightlife on the Rock, and the annual Halloween event
- Ensure all internal events align with Science North’s brand standards and safety protocols, creating memorable experiences for attendees.
- Oversee event-specific requirements, such as themed decorations, special audiovisual needs, and tailored guest experiences
- Oversee the planning, execution, and post-event evaluation of all internal and external events
- Submit accurate and timely financial reports, monitor expenses, and ensure precise billing
- Manage event files, databases, and reports, maintaining up-to-date information for stakeholders
- Coordinate with event teams and other units to ensure smooth execution, including setup, promotion, ticketing, staffing, and vendor coordination for internal and external events.
Marketing & Promotion
- Optimize collaborative efforts with caterers and other service providers to enhance event quality.
- Create and implement research and evaluation tools to enhance client satisfaction Work with the marketing team to update the website and social media platforms
Team Building and Engagement
- Train and mentor staff to deliver consistent, quality experiences that reflect Science North’s commitment to excellence
- Uphold and promote Science North’s brand values by ensuring high standards in customer service, event execution, and communication.
- Lead and support team members, fostering a collaborative, positive and high-performing environment
- Lead by example, operate with integrity and respect and inspire your team to demonstrate our values
- Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular evaluations to support individual and team growth
As the successful candidate you will have:
- Minimum of 5 years of diverse event management experienceA post-secondary degree and/or diploma in hospitality, tourism, event management or a field that lends to the position
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Superior expertise in using Microsoft Office Suite applications
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to foster productive working relationships
- A resourceful and creative approach to problem solving
- A positive attitude that can easily adapt to situations and changing event demands
- Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills to meet strict deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and outstanding organizational skills
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- A valid G driver's license in good standing with a 3-year clean driving abstract
This position is based out of 100 Ramsey Lake Road, Sudbury and is not suitable for remote work.
Compensation Highlights:
