The Payroll and Benefits Specialist (10-Month Contract) plays a key role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, benefits administration, and compliance with relevant employment laws and company policies. This position requires strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of payroll and benefits. The Payroll and Benefits Specialist (10-Month Contract) will be responsible for processing employee payroll, managing benefits enrollment and administration, and addressing payroll-related inquiries. They will collaborate with HR, Finance, and external vendors to ensure seamless payroll operations and benefits administration.
Key Responsibilities → How You’ll Make an Impact
- Timely and accurate full-cycle processing of payroll for hourly and salaried employees, including but not limited to reviewing paperwork and keying payroll entries into the system for employees across multi provinces and 2 stores in US, complete benefit enrollment and issue ROEs.
- Ensures payroll is processed in compliance with company policy and legislation.
- Create, update, and maintain up-to-date process documentation.
- Support the efforts of the Manager, Payroll & Benefits in day-to-day payroll functions.
- Maintains and updates employee information in both payroll system and benefit provider sites.
- Provide high quality employee service by ensuring timely resolution of employee payroll, benefit, and system inquiries.
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters.
- Support payroll activities including year-end, remittances, incentive programs, benefits enrollments & updates.
- Support process improvement initiatives
- Establish and maintain relationships with 3rd party providers and ensure timely correspondence.
- Completing T4's, T4As, RL-1, T2200
- As a member of the payroll team deliver payroll year end reporting within legislated timelines and established data integrity standards
- Build custom reports on request for various departments.
- Understanding on the structure of the company to be able to provide system-based solutions.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience → The Skills You Bring
- University degree or College diploma is preferred.
- 3+ years of payroll experience processing and administering benefits or similar role.
- Dayforce experience is an asset.
- Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is an asset.
- Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Advanced computer skills including experience with Ceridian Dayforce & Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Knowledge and understanding of US benefits.
- Creative aptitude with ability to think outside the box when making recommendations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excel in team environment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong customer service attitude along with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships both internally and externally.
