What is Canada Summer Jobs?
Canada Summer Jobs is an initiative of the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy, which aims to provide flexible and holistic services to help all young Canadians develop the skills and gain paid work experience to successfully transition into the labour market. Bachelors of Early Learning and Community Development
In line with the BELCD program at Algonquin College, this position also offers the opportunity to complete your 420 hours as a part of your student placement. If you are currently enrolled in the Bachelor’s or Early Learning and Community Development, and are looking for a placement opportunity, you may indicate that as a part of the application process. If you are successful in your application, your placement would be from May 5, 2025, to August 15, 2025.
Job Summary
Pinecrest Queensway Community Health Centre is looking for a Childcare Worker Assistant for the summer term to focus on providing safe and educational opportunities for families with young children to play, develop and grow together. For the duration of the work term, the employee will work with staff to create and implement community based or childcare programming that promotes movement and learning for children 0 to 6. The successful candidate can be with either our Early ON Child and Family Centre or with our Headstart Childcare Centre.
Administration
- Partner with EarlyON, Headstart and other PQCHC programs to support and programs to families and young children.
- Promote outdoor and risky play by offering resources and age appropriate programming
- Support existing outreach and new opportunities to promote PQCHC Early ON & Headstart Childcare principles of quality, accessibility and infrastructure in a family context
- Welcome the diversity of all families, role modelling inclusive and accessible language
- Promote and encourage children and families in outdoor and virtual play
- Participate in implementing summer programming
Human Resources
- Review Centre’s operational guidelines, policies and procedures and other legislation required as it relates to the delivery of services and provide recommendations for the policy reviews.
Teamwork and Collaboration
- Adheres to program specific policies and procedures/guidelines and in the overall planning and development of the program
- Participates in the evaluation component of relevant program
- Maintains effective communication of information among internal and external stakeholders
- Follows established policies of off-site organizations where staff are co-located.
- Participating actively as a team member at staff meetings, collaborative reflection sessions, in generating and exchanging ideas, in goal setting and in sharing the responsibility for all the children enrolled
- The ability to work collaboratively with others to co-construct understandings and teaching strategies;
- Commitment to building genuine partnerships with others that enable open and constructive conversations about curriculum;
Education
- High School Diploma
Professional Experience
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Strong knowledge on child development & early learning programming
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Experience working with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds in a community based setting
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft suite; word, excel, publisher, access, and internet & email, Zoom and other databases, as required)
- Demonstrates skills in working collaboratively with community partners on early learning and care initiatives
- Experience and sensitivity working with all families including those in an urban core setting, culturally diverse, 2SLGBTQI+, young parents, etc.

- Must be between the ages of 15-30 years of age as per Canada Summer Jobs requirements.

- Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, as per the requirements of Canada Summer Jobs
