The Opportunity:
Postmedia is looking for a digital leader to support the implementation of strategic initiatives in community newsrooms in northern Alberta. This role reports to the Editor-in-Chief, Edmonton Journal and works closely with journalists across the province.
The Regional Editor, Northern Alberta will support the implementation of our regional strategy across our community newsrooms, helping connect with our readers, whether that’s through a weekly newsletter, developing a regular video series explaining a complex issue, or an event tied to a topic shaping our communities right now, as well as directing coverage of regional issues that are important to Albertans.
What you’ll do:

Oversee daily output of region to ensure all gaps are covered from larger markets in northern cities to smaller outposts

Supports community journalists with executing new strategies, such as a user-generated content process or new sales initiative.

Act as the point of contact for senior editors at in Edmonton and other Postmedia departments

Work with the national regional editor to help newsrooms identify opportunities to create new products or pivot existing initiatives, like a newsletter or video series, using key insights from audience data.
Who you are:

You have a minimum of least two years of newsroom experience, with knowledge of email, video, and audience strategy.

You are a collaborative teammate who is not afraid of trying new things or having difficult conversations.

You believe in a people-driven culture, supported by data.

Strong copy-editing skills and knowledge of CP Style

A demonstrated knowledge of best practices in search engine optimization for published content to drive traffic and build an audience from search

The ability to analyze content performance metrics and incorporate insights into overall strategies and best practices
