The Opportunity: Working in the joint Calgary Herald/Calgary Sun newsroom, the successful candidate will be an experienced journalist well versed in writing, editing and digital production skills. Applicants are expected to have excellent news judgment, an understanding of local issues and demonstrable strengths in accurate editing and writing. The successful candidate will be expected to be well-rounded and help write and post up breaking news, and be able to handle a variety of forms of journalism to drive digital engagement. The producer must be creative, collaborative and an innovative thinker when it comes to producing content for our readers. Candidates must be familiar with digital publication skills, SEO best practices, editing and headline writing, content packaging and Canadian Press style. A knowledge of social media platforms, leveraging those platforms and generating interest in content is required. Candidates must be comfortable working under pressure, editing under tight deadlines and be flexible in hours of work.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Edit news and feature stories for calgaryherald.com and calgarysun.com; write and report at times; assist in generation of content for these two websites via text, video, photo and audio elements.
  • Publish content on websites, ensuring best SEO, tagging and headline practices are implemented.
  • Amplify publication and promotion of Postmedia Calgary content via social platforms, newsletters and more.
  • Groom website, as required.
  • Assist digital team manager in meeting metric goals and producing projects that enhance content offerings in areas including digital, video, newsletters, social media, print and special products

 

Who you are (qualifications):

  • You will have experience at a daily news organization in a deadline-oriented environment
  • Fluency in digital and social platforms
  • Strong editing and writing skills
  • Ability to work accurately and quickly
  • Flexibility to dive into any assigned task
  • Able to work virtually within a dynamic team but also able to work independently a when required
