We’re looking for a Manager, Total Rewards to join our dynamic HR team. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on complexity, embraces continuous improvement, and is eager to modernize and harmonize Total Rewards for a growing, fast-paced organization.

Why this Role is Unique

  • Shape the Future: Lead the design of modern Total Rewards programs that support 9,000+ employees across diverse roles (corporate, warehouse, and logistics).
  • Build, Not Maintain: This isn’t about managing status quo — it’s about building frameworks that attract, retain, and reward talent at scale.
  • Drive Impact: Your work will directly influence employee experience, pay equity, and benefits for thousands of team members across Metro and SCI.

What You’ll Do

As the Manager, Total Rewards, you’ll be a key leader in designing and overseeing Metro’s Compensation, Benefits, and Retirement programs. Reporting to the Director, Total Rewards & HR Technology, you’ll be supported by a team to drive impactful change and ensure our rewards programs are modern, fair, and future-proof.

Total Rewards Strategy & Leadership

  • Contribute to the development and lead the execution of company Total Rewards Strategy to align with overall HR strategy and meet business requirements.
  • Assist in the design, launch, and manage the overall compensation and benefits framework.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to HR Business Partners and senior leadership on compensation, benefits, and pay equity topics.

Compensation Programs

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a competitive salary structure, job leveling frameworks, and short-term incentive programs.
  • Analyze market trends, benchmark data, and internal pay equity to ensure fairness and compliance.
  • Oversee the administration of merit increases, job evaluations, and incentive plans, ensuring smooth execution.

Benefits & Well-Being

  • Contribute to the review, selection, and administration of extended health and dental benefit programs.
  • In collaboration with the Director, Total Rewards and other leaders, work with brokers, insurers, and vendors to ensure the best value for Metro and its employees.
  • Oversee compliance with regulations related to benefits (e.g., taxable benefits, reporting requirements).

Retirement Programs

  • Manage Metro’s retirement programs, including defined benefit (DB), defined contribution (DC), GRRSP, and DPSP programs.
  • Ensure timely completion of filings and compliance with pension regulations.

Compliance, Risk & Reporting

  • Ensure Total Rewards programs comply with legal requirements (like Pay Equity and Employment Equity).
  • Complete all required government filings and participate in audits.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to address emerging risks.

Lead and Develop a High-Performing Team

  • Lead a team of 3 to 5 Team Members — inspiring, coaching, and supporting them as they grow in their roles.
  • Provide clear direction, set goals, and prioritize team deliverables.
  • Champion a culture of learning, growth, and continuous improvement.

What We’re Looking For

This role is for someone who can think strategically but act tactically. We want a hands-on leader who’s comfortable navigating complexity, driving modernization, and leading a team. Here’s what we think the ideal candidate looks like:

Experience & Skills

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in Total Rewards, Compensation, or Benefits, preferably within complex, multi-site organizations.
  • Strong technical knowledge of compensation design, benefits administration, and regulatory compliance (Ontario Pay Equity, taxable benefits, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with HRIS systems (experience with Dayforce is a plus).
  • Skilled in using Excel and PowerPoint to analyze data, create models, and deliver insights to senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated project management skills to handle multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholder needs.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills — able to explain complex concepts to employees, managers, and executives alike.

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) certification is a bonus.

Leadership Style

  • A team-builder: You build trust, inspire action, and coach your team to achieve shared goals.
  • A forward-thinker: You’re not afraid to bring fresh perspectives and modernize Total Rewards frameworks.
  • A problem-solver: You use data, curiosity, and collaboration to solve complex challenges.
