011 - Supervisor, Healthy Children & Families
About the Role:
The Healthy Children and Families Program Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the full life cycle for their program and/or employees, from hiring to orientation, to coaching and performance management, and termination. The Supervisor is responsible for handling employee relations issues, including attendance and absenteeism, in relation to their assigned team. The Supervisor is also responsible for providing input into program policy development and implementation, goals and direction, and overall delivery and quality of work. The Supervisor will report to the Manager of Healthy Children and Families.
The Healthy Children and Families program provides support related to pre-conception, prenatal care, and healthy early childhood development. The program includes Healthy Babies Healthy Children, Community Action Program for Children, and the Canadian Prenatal Nutrition program. The program hosts workshops, webinars, education sessions, and other participant-based activities to support healthy pregnancies, children, and families. The program also offers direct client services to individuals and families. Services are available virtually, in office, in community, and in client homes.
What you will be doing:
- Act as a role model for the behaviour and culture expected from the team
- Explain / screen for behaviour and culture when hiring new employees
- Provide training on work culture, work expectations, job duties and organizational policies and procedures or arrange for proper training to be provided
- Provide ongoing coaching to support effective job performance and conduct constructive and timely performance evaluations at least once per year
- Organize, plan, and supervise day to day work for assigned employees
- Resolve conflicts that arise among employees
- Research and prepare detailed and accurate reports, briefing notes and presentations
- Attend meetings with senior management, funders, elected officials and government and present where required
- Collaborate with employees to identify ways to improve program or Branch efficiency and effectiveness and implement viable ideas, including the Healthy Children and Families Program
- Work with other program supervisor to ensure continuity between the Healthy Children and Families program staff
- Implement coaching and corrective performance plans where required
- Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with policy
- Collaborate with the other supervisor and the Manager to develop a strategic plan and work plans to implement a culturally-grounded program.
- Collaborate with the other supervisor and Manager to complete funding proposals and reporting requirements to meet funding obligations.
- Provide appropriate oversight as required by relevant legislation including the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIB), Ontario Human Rights Code, AODA, etc.
- Other reasonable duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications:
- Previous 1-2 years or more experience in a People Leader role, or comparable experience motivating/leading others
- Demonstrated experience providing prenatal, postnatal, or early childhood supports and services
- Demonstrated experience dealing with personal and confidential information and issues in a mature, tactful and diplomatic manner
- Demonstrated experience in quickly acquiring and expanding knowledge and being flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment
- Extensive experience in engaging with key stakeholders, including provincial and federal governments and other FNMI organizations
- A post-secondary degree in health, social services, or related field
- Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture.
- A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment
- Superior organization skills and time/priority-management managing others including the design and implementation of project work plans
- Advanced communications skills, both written and verbal including advanced report writing capabilities
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, lead and work effectively with others in a supervisory capacity
- Demonstrated understanding of policies, processes, practices and documentation used to deliver program services or the Branch mandate
Preferred Qualifications:
- Significant knowledge of Métis and/or Indigenous policy issues and principles or a demonstrated ability to quickly acquire knowledge
- Strong understanding of relevant legislation including the Canadian Criminal Code, Ontario Human Rights Code, Combating Human Trafficking Act, etc.
- Demonstrated understanding of policies, processes, practices and documentation used to deliver program services or the Branch mandate
- Understanding of the MNO’s governance structure and the Canada-Métis Nation Accord
- Experience in conflict resolution
- Experience in employee life cycle activities: recruitment, training, and coaching for performance
- Experience designing and implementing project work plans (considered an asset)
- Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets and project deliverables (considered an asset)
- Bilingualism (considered an asset)
- Completion of a supervisory or leadership course or certificate (considered an asset)
All positions at the MNO may require the following:
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain
- Completion and maintenance of Vulnerable Sector Verification
- A reliable vehicle (or ability to rent), driver’s licence, $1,000,000 liability insurance, and a clean driving record
- Flexibility to work extended hours as necessary
- Ability to occasionally travel within Ontario for limited periods of time
