Regional Proponent Liaison
About the Role
The primary objective of the Regional Proponent Liaison position is to monitor the operations of the Region (3) RCC Proponent relationships by researching and recording the impacts of the mine activities and exploration on the environment. The position includes liaising with the MNO regional consultation community regarding any issues that have the potential to affect Métis land use or way of life.
The Employee will report directly to the Region (3) Regional Manager and be responsive to Region (3) Consultation Committee. The Employee will update and liaise with the MNO’s Region (3) Regional Manager regularly on the Employee’s work/activities. The reporting arrangement may be changed by the MNO at any time and the Employee shall be notified of any such changes.
What you will be doing
- Fully understand the significance and fundamental importance of MNO’s Statement of Prime Purpose (SPP) to all MNO’s work, and specifically to the requirements of the position.
- Adhere, at all times, to MNO Policies and Procedures and MNO’s Financial Policies and Procedures.
- Uphold MNO’s Standards of Professional Conduct at all times.
- Adhere to Privacy Laws and respect confidential information at all times.
- The employee must be cognizant of the Ontario Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workers' Safety and Insurance Board, and other legislative requirements.
- Ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with established Métis Nation of Ontario Policies and Procedures and Contribution Agreements (CA).
- Work in collaboration within Region 3 and liaise with other MNO branches, MNO leadership, MNO citizens, MNO contractors and consultants on related projects and files as requested.
- Gathering and reviewing environmental information related to activities
- Reviewing and commenting on permit studies, applications and other documents on behalf of the MNO RCC3
- Assisting in the review of environmental monitoring data
- Assisting in reviewing and flagging surveys including aquatic, terrestrial, fish and bird surveys, etc
- Facilitating engagement sessions with the MNO R3CC to inform, gather feedback, concerns and questions from MNO citizens regarding the operations
- Reporting back to R3CC any Proponent concerns of the MNO or R3CC
- Participating in MNO Regional Consultation Committee meetings to provide updates on operations as
- Participating in any discussions relating to the mitigation of negative environmental impacts on the Métis community
- Preparing summary updates and reports for the MNO R3CC, as needed
- Maintaining a record of reports prepared for the MNOR3CC, as well as associated documents (e.g., scientific reports)
- Maintaining a log of activities related to this position
Mandatory Qualifications:
- A background in the environmental sector, ecology, biology, chemistry, exploration, business or Indigenous/ Métis studies;
- An understanding of environmental issues and Métis issues or a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn about these and other processes and issues quickly;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in order to liaise with MNO leadership, R3CC committee and Proponent staff;
- Willingness to travel for MNO R3CC meetings;
- Knowledge of MS Office applications (MS Word, Excel) is an asset;
- An understanding of environmental technology and ability to take samples;
- Presentation and facilitation skills;
- Understanding of government regulations pertaining to all operations is an asset;
