About the Role:

The prime objective of the Canada Prenatal/Postnatal Nutrition Program Coordinator is to support at risk Indigenous children 0 to 6 and their families. The program offers prenatal, infant and child nutrition information for the betterment of their development, parenting and caregiving skills. The goals of this program are to increase the number of babies born with healthy birth weights, decrease the number of overweight babies resulting from gestational diabetes, improve the health of pregnant women and decrease the number of preventable birth defects etc.

 What you will be doing: 

  • Ensure that Canada Prenatal/Postnatal Nutrition Program is delivered in the spirit and philosophy of the Métis Nation of Ontario’s Statement of Prime Purpose
  • Understand “at risk” identifiers and assist prenatal mothers and children 0-6 months to address them with the goal of a healthy lifestyle
  • Offer appropriate support through advocacy, programming and resources to clients as requested
  • Conduct on-site visits with client parents
  • Develop programs to address current issues regarding children’s wellness
  • Assess client situations on case-by-case basis
  • Confer with external stakeholders to provide maximum care for client parents and children
  • Develop and implement client and community based programming as required
  • Maintain community relationships through networking
  • Participate in community-based and provincial-based committees as assigned by the Healing & Wellness Branch Supervisor or Manager
  • Maintain client files for pertinent data collection while maintaining client confidentiality
  • Record client services in the Online Health and Access Tracking System (OHATS)
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times, and adhere to privacy legislation
  • Attend training and meetings outside Métis Nation of Ontario working hours
  • Perform Administrative duties, and other duties as instructed by the Program Supervisor
  • Financial reporting specific to your program site and budget
  • Reflect Métis cultural approaches as a part of the activities and services
  • Participate in on-going professional development activities as time and financial resources permit
  • Fulfill all other responsibilities as determined by management of Healing and Wellness Branch

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with volunteers in a non-profit environment
  • 1 or more years’ experience in client services experience
  • 1 or more years’ experience working children 0 to 6 months
  • Proficiency with computer programs (Outlook, Excel, Work and PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of the Métis Nation of Ontario and programs offered
  • Knowledge of Indigenous programs and services
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision
  • Well-developed administrative, organizational and communication skills in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to lift 11.5kg when required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in social services
  • Bilingualism would be considered an asset
