About the role

The Community Wellness Program Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the full life cycle for their program and/or employees, from hiring to orientation, to coaching and performance management, and termination. The Supervisor is responsible for handling employee relations issues, including attendance and absenteeism, in relation to their assigned team. The Supervisor is also responsible for providing input into program policy development and implementation, goals and direction, and overall delivery and quality of work.  The Supervisor will report to the Manager of Community Wellbeing.

What you will be doing

  • Act as a role model for the behaviour and culture expected from the team
  • Explain / screen for behaviour and culture when hiring new employees
  • Provide training on work culture, work expectations, job duties and organizational policies and procedures or arrange for proper training to be provided
  • Provide ongoing coaching to support effective job performance and conduct constructive and timely performance evaluations at least once per year
  • Organize, plan, and supervise day to day work for assigned employees
  • Resolve conflicts that arise among employees
  • Research and prepare detailed and accurate reports, briefing notes and presentations
  • Attend meetings with senior management, funders, elected officials and government and present where required
  • Collaborate with employees to identify ways to improve program or Branch efficiency and effectiveness and implement viable ideas, including the Community Wellness Program
  • Work with other program supervisor to ensure continuity between the Community
    Wellness program staff
  • Implement coaching and corrective performance plans where required
  • Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with policy
  • Provide appropriate oversight as required by relevant legislation including the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIB), Ontario Human Rights Code, AODA, etc.
  • Other reasonable duties as may be assigned

Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree in social services or related field
  • Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture.
  • A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment
  • Superior organization skills and time/priority-management managing others including the design and implementation of project work plans
  • Advanced communications skills, both written and verbal including advanced report writing capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, lead and work effectively with others in a supervisory capacity
  • Demonstrated understanding of policies, processes, practices and documentation used to deliver program services or the Branch mandate
  • Previous 1-2 years or more experience in a People Leader role, or comparable experience motivating/leading others
  • Demonstrated experience dealing with personal and confidential information and issues in a mature, tactful and diplomatic manner
  • Demonstrated experience in quickly acquiring and expanding knowledge and being flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment
  • Extensive experience in engaging with key stakeholders, including provincial and federal governments and other FNMI organizations

Preferred

  • Significant knowledge of Métis and/or Indigenous policy issues and principles or a demonstrated ability to quickly acquire knowledge
  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation including the Canadian Criminal Code, Ontario Human Rights Code, Combating Human Trafficking Act, etc.
  • Demonstrated understanding of policies, processes, practices and documentation used to deliver program services or the Branch mandate
  • Understanding of the MNO’s governance structure and the Canada-Métis Nation Accord
  • Experience in conflict resolution
  • Experience in employee life cycle activities: recruitment, training, and coaching for performance
