About the role

Under the direction of Supervisor of Family Wellbeing, this position is a community level resource who will play a role in creating safe, healthy, culturally appropriate and accessible spaces for community members to gather and improve their capacity to prevent violence and build supportive peer networks.

This position will build and expand upon community relationships and develop collaborative activities with internal and external parties.

What you will be doing

This position reports directly to the Supervisor of Family Wellbeing and is responsive to Manager of Family Wellbeing

In carrying out the following duties, it is expected that the Health Community Mobilizer will:

  • Contribute to the development and review of project work plans. Contribute to required project progress reports.
  • Provide educational workshops and community presentations.
  • Provide drop-in educational and recreational activities for families with children, youth and teens.
  • Schedule and lead meetings with community partners.
  • Provide support for community information gathering activities.
  • Work with Family Wellbeing Coordinators to inventory and improve on safe spaces throughout the province.
  • Provide administrative, logistical and research support as required for Branch planning and activities.
  • Will collaborate in the development and oversight of the activities in their Annual Work Plan and will manage a local program activity budget.
  • Lead networking meetings with community partners.
  • Coordinate and lead educational/recreational activities for families with children, youth and teens.
  • Contribute to Monthly and Quarterly project progress reports.
  • Spend and track the use of a program activity budget.
  • Bring client service requests forward to Supervisor of Family Wellbeing.
  • Keep records of meetings and progress reports associated with branch working groups and special projects.
  • Produce briefing notes and other reports as required.
  • Provides logistic and administrative assistance with scheduling and organizing MNO cultural events and gatherings.
  • Other reasonable duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Mandatory qualifications:

  • Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
  • Relevant background in Métis-focused community activities, recreation and educational programs
  • Well-developed administrative, organizational and communication skills in order to meet deadlines
  • Proficiency with computer programs and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Métis focused and broader Aboriginal programs and services
  • Flexible work schedule with ability to work extended hours or week-ends as necessary
  • Willingness and ability to travel

Education

  • High School Diploma and knowledge of indigenous community programming
  • Post-Secondary education in a Fitness/Recreation, Health Promotion and/or Social Services related field preferred; and/or minimum of 2 yrs experience in providing development and oversight of programs and services in an Indigenous setting.
