Job Scope:  

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources and the Director, Occupational Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability this position will lead both our on-site Human Resources (HR) and our site health, safety, and environment (HS&E) agenda, further embedding these critical areas within the culture. Working very closely with the Operations Manager and site management, and in conjunction with our HR Director and H&S Director, you will guide and provide service on all matters relating to HR policies, procedures and practices as well as the effective management of our corporate health, safety & environmental program, employee education, and H&S policy and procedures.

 

Also working very collaboratively with our local Operations, Bulk Hauling, and other site partners, you will be required to prioritize and multi-task within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, manage a high level of detail including compliance, claims management and local data administration. You have a safety-first mentality, understand the value of working as part of a team, and enjoy the challenge of a highly important role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily onsite HR & Health & Safety leadership.
  • Provide support and advice to management and staff on a wide range of employee relations and human resources initiatives, while promoting positive relations with all stakeholders.
  • Provide direction and lead internal employee investigations.
  • Accountable to ensure site employee engagement plan is actioned.
  • Lead and support site Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Provide direction and guidance on local compensation and benefit questions, policies and reviews.
  • Assist in the upkeep of the Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental compliance management system.
  • Coordinate and participate in internal and external health, safety & environmental audits and inspections.
  • Ensure integrity pertaining to compensation management across the site, including data accuracy, internal compensation, and pay structures.
  • Site lead for communication to employees including company bulletin boards, app and TV’s
  • Complete Form 7s and coordinate the return-to-work program (RTW)
  • Help coordinate environmental affairs: Environmental Approvals, Monitoring and Reporting, Hazardous Materials Management (waste material disposal), and Waste Management.
  • Track and schedule all health, safety & environmental training programs.
  • Monitoring and inspecting site to ensure HSE compliance; assisting in and ensuring proper investigation and reporting of incidents and accidents; and conducting in-house training sessions on site (e.g. orientations, hazard assessments, shop talks, etc.)
  • Facilitate the organizing of corporate events such as fundraising campaigns and holiday parties and actively participate in Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
  • Attend prescribed courses/training.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.

 

Qualifications:

  • Post secondary degree with focus on Health and Safety AND Human Resource Management (CHRP or working towards preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a hands-on Health, Safety and Environment AND HR leadership role.  
  • Solid working knowledge of health, safety & environmental regulations and related principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated effective change management and influencing skills.
  • Experience conducting adult training considered an asset.
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal and presentation)
  • Understanding that maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality and sensitive information is a mandatory.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to influence and coach others, while working collaboratively with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong professionalism and diplomacy pertaining to all areas of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Working knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Self starter, strategic thinking and customer focused.
  • Demonstrated strong judgment and decision making skills.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook) and HRM systems.
