Job Scope:
As the Corporate Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the management/development of Corporate Engineering team and is accountable for the end-to-end project management of site engineering projects. This includes managing costs/cash flow, sourcing, identifying, specifying, purchasing and installing equipment, design/modification of existing or new facilities in line with the Gay Lea Recipe.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide technical and administrative leadership for Corporate Engineering Team for systems & equipment related to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Facilities, Utilities, Processing, and Packaging.
- Supervise, hire and develop the Corporate Engineering Team in the performance of their duties to ensure timely completion of activities and meet project deadlines.
- Establish and manage annual departmental objectives.
- Ensure that departmental objectives and plans are aligned with Site strategies and corporate direction.
- Prepare and implement department Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to meet regulatory requirements.
- Ensure adherence to a Project Management Processes for engineering projects that ensures definition and formal gates between Evaluation, Scoping, Early Development, Detailed Technical Design, Execution, Verification & Handover.
- Ensure project development and execution in alignment with GMP life-cycle documentation (URS through to IQ/OQ/PQ including Data Integrity).
- Ensure compliance of implementations to all relevant governing bodies (i.e. TSSA, MoE, OBC, OFC etc.).
- Manage and maintain capital expenditure budgeting, tracking, cash flow forecasting and reporting system for Engineering projects by:
- Update CapEx tracking sheets with monthly forecasted spend for all Engineering projects.
- Report monthly the current CapEx status & forecast for all Engineering projects capital activities to the Director of Engineering or designate.
- Establish and maintain Capital Project Budget tracking tables for each active capital Project. Facilitate proper and timely close-out of completed capital activities.
- Participate and/or provide support for financial audits and ensure continual SQF, CFIA, and/or customer audit readiness.
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering is preferred or related Science Degree.
- Professional Engineer Designation is preferred.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience completing multiple concurrent engineering projects in a GMP and/or regulated environment.
- Minimum 5 years’ previous supervisory experience preferably in the food or pharmaceutical industry.
- Experience in dairy would be an asset.
- Proficiency in GMP systems, validation & IQ/OQ/PQ, construction law, facility life cycle documentation and Project Management principles.
- Strong judgment, decision making abilities, trouble shooting and thinking-out-of-the-box skills.
- Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates strong cross functional project management and negotiating skills.
- Solid computer experience with MS applications (Project, Word, Excel).
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and proficiency using Microsoft Office applications including MS Project.
