Summary:
 
Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, Mining, the Team Leader is responsible for the efficient output, production, and safety of the mine operations team. The incumbent must conduct all activities in a manner that supports the mission, vision, and values of the Fort McKay Group of Companies LP. 

This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment/pre-access testing.

Key Focuses:
  • Provide  general  supervision,  scheduling  and  directing  work-related  activities  of  a  crew,  with  a  responsibility of up to 15 equipment operators and/or labourers.   
  • Meet or exceed daily shift/production targets from start to finish, implementing instructions from daily operational plans and priorities. 
  • Coordinate  with  the  Shift  Supervisor  to  ensure  that  staff  are  competent,  fit  for  duty,  and  have  the  required skills and training to carry out daily activities. 
  • Ensure that qualified personnel perform tasks requiring authorization, and that equipment is utilized in accordance with the design specifications and correct operating procedures. 
  • Work with the Shift Supervisor and Human Resources to manage employee relations issues, with an ability to maintain confidentiality at all times. 
  • Implement  new  or  revised  policies  and  procedures  as  assigned  by  the  Supervisor  and  Operations  Manager. 
  • Identify and mitigate risks and hazards through regular inspections and behavioral observations.  Work with  Supervisor,  other  Team  Leads,  and  HSE  department  to  ensure  that  standards  for  safe-working procedures and conditions are observed and followed.
  • Prepare various reports, maintain records, and report activities in a timely manner as required. 
  • Perform any related and/or additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • At least 1-3 years of verifiable experience in a supervisory role in an Industrial environment, with relevant experience in a Oilsands production environment relating to Mining, Civil Construction, and Heavy Equipment Operation.
  • Knowledge in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook is required. Experience in Ceridian Dayforce and/or SAP is considered an asset.
  • Valid CSO or BSO certification or combination of CSTS and OSSA is required
  • ACSA and AMSA certification is considered an asset
  • Heavy Hauler, Excavator, Dozer, Loader and Grader experience is required
  • Ability to follow construction designs is required
  • Current valid Class five (5) drivers license or better with a satisfactory 3 year driving abstract is required
  • Ability to use Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and the Internet comfortably
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Able   to   manage   a variable   sized   team   with   differing   shifts,   personalities, and performance. 
  • Strong  conflict  resolutions  skills,  with  the  ability  to  collaborate  with other groups to mitigate and solve issues that may affect the contract or the Fort McKay Group of Companies.   
  • Ability to work independently and multitask, as well as in a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability  to  work  independently  and  multitask,  as  well  as  work effectively  in  a  team  environment,  adapting  to  changing  client  requirements. 
  • Demonstrates    continuous    learning    through    cross-training, learning new skills, and refreshing prior skills. 
  • Must have strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Problem solving skills: problems are solved within general policies and rules under general/ limited guidance. 
This is a full-time position located on the Syncrude Site, north of Fort McMurray, AB.
Work schedule   6 & 6 schedule; three (3) days, three (3) nights and six (6) off.
