Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.



The Opportunity:
We’re looking for a leader to join the Corporate Finance team. The Director, Corporate Finance is a pivotal role that oversees various financial and reporting processes at the entity level, while leading a team of high performing professionals. This is an opportunity to make an impact and support Equitable’s growth through finance related initiatives, along with day-to-day accountabilities to provide financial information to relevant users.   



What you will be doing:

  • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial information used by management, the Board of Directors, and other stakeholders
  • Lead the expense management and financial reporting functions, this includes delivery of the Annual Report to Policyholders, Segregated Fund Annual Reports, Operational Plan, and Regulatory Filings     
  • Responsible for researching and recommending accounting policies and disclosures, ensuring the Company is compliant with IFRS, OSFI, CLHIA and other standards and regulations
  • Managing external relationships and coordinating associated processes for Total Company, such as the external audit, annual rating agency review and pension reporting
  • Assist in developing and implementing new financial reporting processes and controls, improving existing processes, and maximizing the benefits of new technology tools
  • Coaching and guiding a team of finance professionals, supporting their development and growth
  • Work closely with all members of the Corporate Finance team, as well as other functional areas to ensure reporting deadlines are met and/or resolve complex accounting issues

 

 

What you will bring:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation (or international equivalent)
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in the life insurance industry
  • Expert knowledge of accounting standards and policies; including the ability to research and interpret guidance  
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting systems and controls; familiarity with PeopleSoft is an asset  
  • High attention to detail to deliver reliable and quality documents
  • Interpersonal leader who can prioritize, influence and negotiate
  • Expert communication, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Advance to expert level of proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint; Power BI experience is an asset
