Inbound Cargo Assistant Manager
What You'll Get to Do
The Cargo Assistant Manager will assist in overseeing the daily operations and provide assistance to the Cargo Manager as required. This position will provide guidance and direction to cargo employees with an emphasis on quality, efficiency, and safety.
- Assist with overseeing the daily operations
- Gives direction and delegates tasks to crew chiefs and ramp/warehouse/office staff
- Supervise all staff on floor and perform regular warehouse checks
- Ensures all daily operation timelines are met
- Ensures quality of load control information through adherence to load control procedures
- Assists Cargo Manager / Base Manager with operational scheduling
- Assists Cargo Manager / Base Manager with emailing of daily attendance report and any other staff related issues
- Ensures employees adherence to all safety procedures
- Assists with shift “fill ins” or “call outs”
- Maintains communication with the Cargo Manager / Base Manager regarding any ramp operational/safety issues
- Holding staff accountable for wearing PPE and Calm Air supplied uniforms
- Responsible for maintaining a safe working environment as per the Cargo Operations Manual
- Respects and maintains confidentiality with customer and personnel information
- Ensures all incidents and accidents are reported in the SMS program either by writing/email or online SMS program provided by Calm Air
- Overseeing customer communication while on shift and providing feedback to Cargo Manager / Base Manager
- Ensuring all customers are provided with proper manifests, emails and consignments and invoices provided by suppliers
- Monitor competency levels of employees while performing tasks and recommending any further training as required
- Assist with an inventory tracking system (SCANNING)
- Liaison with cargo managers to manage freight movement and daily inventory
- Ensure staff is complying with Contract Airline policy and procedures.
- Assist in making sure local freight deliveries are complete in timely matter.
- Assist manager to maintain day to day contact with Contract Airlines.
- Other duties as assigned
MANAGERS, SUPERVISORS AND LEADS – have been delegated the authority and are responsible to the Department Head to actively identify hazards and deficiencies and report through the SMS (Safety Management System) Program reporting system. Communicate with all personnel within their respective department and other departments as required to maintain effective day to day activities. Ensure regulatory and company standards are maintained. Assist in the development and maintenance of company processes and procedures. (Quality Assurance activities)
Carry out their duties safely within regulatory and company standards, policies, processes, and procedures as trained. Use safety equipment (tools, Proper Protective Equipment etc.) as provided. Actively identify and report hazards and deficiencies (when in doubt report). Assist in development of company processes and procedures as required.
Skills & Experience We Value
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Post-secondary education in a related field considered an asset
- Previous supervisory experience an asset
- Proficiency with computers (MS Office)
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal & communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Excellent organizational skills
- Valid driver’s license and able to obtain and maintain pass an AVOP (Airside Vehicle Operator Permit)
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an Enhanced Security Clearance
- Inuktitut language considered an asset
- Preference is given to Inuit Land Claims Beneficiaries
