We are currently looking for a permanent full-time Contract and Compliance Specialist to join our team in Richmond, BC.

Reporting to the General Counsel, the primary responsibilities of the Contract and Compliance Specialist are to manage, review and ensure adherence to contractual, regulatory and compliance requirements (including those of Wenco’s parent company, Hitachi Construction Machinery Co, Ltd,), applicable to our global operations, while facilitating growth for the Wenco.

Key Deliverables and Responsibilities:   

  • Develop, implement, and maintain compliance programs to ensure adherence to international laws, regulations, and company policies, including privacy and data protection..
  • Monitor and evaluate changes in global regulatory requirements, particularly export control regulations, and provide guidance on compliance risks and best practices.
  • Conduct regular compliance risk assessments and recommend appropriate mitigating actions.
  • Ensure compliance with international export control laws, including EIPA, EAR, ITAR, EU Dual-Use Regulations, and other country-specific requirements.
  • Review and approve export transactions to ensure alignment with applicable export control regulations and corporate processes.
  • Classify goods, software, and technology under relevant export control regimes and ensure proper licensing requirements are met.
  • Review, draft and negotiate commercial contracts with customers, vendors, partners and other stakeholders. 
  • Establishing, implementing, and improving existing workflows, administrative procedures and contract review
  • Facilitate and manage contract approval processes.
  • Create and maintain action items list and keep track of critical dates
  • Provide administrative support to General Counsel, including maintaining calendars, scheduling and attending meetings. 
  • Prepare regular reports on due diligence, compliance issues, and potential risks.
  • Work closely with internal teams to address and rectify compliance concerns.
  • Assist in training of staff on relevant contractual and compliance requirements and best practices.

Experience and Knowledge

  • University degree preferably in law, internal relations or related field. 
  • Experience in export control in global markets
  • Experience in the mining industry is an asset 
  • Knowledge of third-party service providers for due diligence 
  • Proven proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Commercial experience in professional setting
  • Proficiency with MS Teams and SharePoint
  • Experience with CLM software
  • Experience with global privacy and data management regulations. 
  • Proficient in written and spoken English, with a strong command of contracts, legal terminology, and professional communication
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to problem solve matters with stakeholders and all levels of staff.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Excellent attention to detail, be organized and proactive, able to multi-task and handle changing priorities.

Compensation and Benefits Package 

  • Base salary of CAD $65,000 -$75,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications
