Job Overview:
Reporting to the Sr Manufacturing Quality Manager, the Quality Assurance Manager will be responsible for the plant quality strategy, quality targets and the identification and elimination of quality and food safety issues and problems helping ensure that processes, procedures and measurements are in place to produce food safe and quality products and continually improve the Quality Program while growing the team’s capabilities.
This role is permanent full-time with a standard 37.5 hour work week and eligibility for overtime.
What You Will Get to Do:
- Responsible for the development and implementation of the Quality Plant strategy aligned with the Corporate Quality Food Safety strategy for both products and programs by continuously identifying areas of improvement in the efficiency and productivity of the current processes
- Create business partners with the corporate quality functions as food safety/micro and sanitation and with operations and supply chain aimed to improve and ensure Quality Program compliance and enhancement
- Facilitate projects and programs on quality related topics and represent the quality function in the plant to ensure that sufficient resources and expertise are allocated to significant plant projects
- Manage the allocated quality budget and identify new equipment purchases or repairs to ensure the highest quality and safety of Give & Go production lines
- Ensure superior product standards through the use innovative ideas and concepts through the use of quality and food safety controls to comply with specifications
- Ensure consistent compliance with G&G policies and procedures and adhere to national and international food industry standards
- Provide leadership and direction of the QA plant team, directly to the QA Supervisor(s) and QA Sr. Technician
- Identifying training needs, providing opportunity for personal growth, assuring adherence to company policies and practices, managing absenteeism, providing coaching and assisting in performance management
- Question complacency of the status quo and act as a quality culture change manager looking at tools and processes that can be upgraded and modernized across the site
- Schedule and coordinate internal and third-party quality audits for the plant, working to establish procedures, standards and policies relating to quality and food safety, work with key individuals in the QA department to maintain audit practitioner certifications
- Perform sampling, inspection, and physical testing on the product and/or equipment
- Conduct team-training on Food Safety & Quality Management as per GFSI and customer requirements to maintain or better external audit scoring, while ensuring consistent compliance with national and international food industry standards
- Maintain proper documentation relating to QA reports, KPI’s and ensure trends identified in audits and HACCP validations are tracked and preventative actions are developed.
Recipe for Success:
- Completion of Master’s degree in Food Science or related field
- 5+ years of experience with Quality Assurance.
- Leading quality teams within a fast-moving consumer goods environment.
- Proficient with office 365, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams. Ability to run analytics and use database systems to create reports
- Demonstrate leadership capabilities, interpersonal relations skills and excellent problem-solving skills
- Possess customer service, an approachable demeanor, and an active listener
- Demonstrated ability to work and influence within all levels of the organization and an effective ability to coach
- Excellent knowledge of quality principles, quality systems and strong in CFIA/Health Canada/FDA/USDA/GFSI/HACCP Benchmarks Auditing
- Ability to manage and communicate sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion
- Excellent ability to focus and prioritize in a fast-moving environment
- Possesses strategic agility, business acumen, stakeholder management skills, and sound understanding of the commercial business
- Effective ability to coach, develop and mentor people
- Understanding and managing the cost of quality
