Health & Safety Coordinator
Under the guidance of the Health and Safety Supervisor the Health and Safety Coordinator will play a key role in overseeing and advocating Panorama Mountain Resort’s (PMR) Health and Safety Program while also being an active member of the Safety Services Team.
Essential Functions include but are not limited to:
- Periodic review and revision of the written H&S program
- Training employees in program content
- Supporting managers and supervisors on the application of the program
- Accident investigations for injured employees
- Maintaining correspondence with WorkSafe BC
- Assisting department managers with “stay at work” and “return to work” programs for injured employees
- Maintaining statistics on work related injuries and WorkSafe BC claim costs
- Chairing the Health and Safety Committee
- Maintaining the resorts COR certification by conducting internal audits of the Health and Safety Program and by preparing the resort for scheduled external audits.
- Ensuring the public safety and wellbeing of all patrons, staff and local residents at PMR
- Provide First Aid to guests and staff including the use of an AED and spinal injury management equipment
- Respond to alarms (fire, nuisance, door etc.)
- Inspect alarms & security systems, and rectify deficiencies
- Monitor the CCTV system
- Dispatch and liaise with emergency services as required (police, fire, ambulance, search and rescue, utilities)
- Conduct accident/incident investigations & generate reports
- Perform foot and vehicle patrols of the property including residences, parking garages, storage areas, and public access areas to provide a deterrent to theft, vandalism and disturbances and to identify safety concerns
The Health and Safety Coordinator works closely with the Employee Experience department to:
- Provide health and safety orientation for new workers in a variety of formats including various computer software and group presentations.
- Coach supervisors and managers on PMR’s best practices for facilitating department specific training
- Provide aid and assistance performing typical human relations tasks as assigned
Education, Experience, Attitude
The H&S Coordinator will possess a post-secondary diploma or degree, preferably with a focus on occupational health and safety. A valid driver’s license is essential, and applicants must be bondable.
Knowledge of ski area operations is an asset, so is prior experience with occupational health and safety.
The H&S Coordinator will be an administrator that is comfortable writing reports and policy, referring to regulation, and managing data. They will be confident enough to chair meetings and to present in front of groups. They will be flexible (willing to work throughout the week, evening and nights as required) and productive when working independently.
Above all, the successful candidate will be enthusiastic about outdoor recreation and enjoy living in a small town or resort environment.
