Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for managing Eastlink’s Video Engineering team. This will mean working in a highly collaborative environment, regularly engaging with adjacent teams and vendors/suppliers, in order to ensure high quality delivery of our video services.
Supporting a broad range of technologies, the candidate will need to have a high aptitude for self-learning. This team is responsible for an array of technologies, including the latest in video streaming over a national CDN, network-based DVR storage, a multicast video distribution network, VoD, Ad-insertion, and well as more traditional video delivery methods (Pro:Idiom, analog, etc.).
The role is that of a self-starter with strong technical and personnel leadership skills. It requires proactivity, innovation, and pragmatism, adapting to the changing landscape of video service delivery.
Requirements:
- Approximately 10 years of working experience in Telecommunications, ideally in a role related to video systems.
- Experience with Tivo/Xperi streaming services, or Concurrent/Vecima platforms is a strong asset.
- Experience with streaming protocols (HLS, DASH, etc.) is a strong asset.
- Knowledge of video/audio encoding standards is a strong asset.
- General IP network theory, especially multicasting (PIM, IGMP) is a strong asset.
- Experience in CDN network planning is an asset.
- Knowledge of storage networking (e.g.: CEPH) is an asset.
- Knowledge of DRM concepts (Fairplay, Widevine, Verimatrix) is an asset.
- Knowledge of VoD/PPV platforms is an asset.
- Knowledge of Ad-Insertion technologies, and Canadian Sim-Subbing is an asset.
- Knowledge of traditional QAM video distribution, particularly with Commscope’s DAC ecosystem, is an asset.
- Knowledge of other traditional video delivery methods (e.g.: Bulk Analog, Pro:Idiom, etc.) is an asset.
- Cyber Security understanding is an asset.
