STAFF DEVELPOMENT COORDINATOR
Candidates are invited to apply for the Temporary Full-Time position of Staff Development Coordinator for our long term care home, Southbridge Lakehead, in Thunder Bay. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Staff Development Coordinator ensures that staff development and training needs are identified and met in the home by coordinating and planning: orientation programs, mandatory in-service programs and staff development programs; including presentation of programs of a general nature to all staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in the development and maintenance of care standards and objectives.
- Organizes plans, prepares, presents and evaluates in-service training program in the home.
- Sets up and provides guidance to staff on managing access to software based training (Surge Leaning and Safety 24/7).
- In consultation with department heads and Executive Director, identifies staff training needs and plans programs to meet these needs.
- Plans, coordinates, implements and evaluates the effectiveness of orientation programs for all new staff. Ensures follow through and support are available for new staff throughout the orientation period.
- In cooperation with Executive Director and Department Heads, plans, coordinates implements and evaluates the effectiveness of yearly and monthly in-service / staff development programs for all staff.
- Promotes communication and team building within and between all departments.
- Keeps informed of new legislation, procedures and practices which may impact on the home and staff development programs.
- Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner and maintains work area in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of a professional health training program and currently licensed to practice in that discipline with interest/ experience in Adult Education. Post secondary training in adult education and previous experience in staff education preferred.
- Previous experience in a long term care setting desirable; knowledgeable in the principles and philosophy of long term care including applicable legislation
- Familiarity with industry requirements for workplace health and safety desirable
- Ability to supervise and direct learning and work of learners.
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize and focus action on what is best for the organization and staff development
- Must have a good understanding of IT technologies.
- Demonstrates concern and interest in providing quality care and service for residents.
- Ability to communicate with other staff, residents, families and the public.
- French Language an asset.
