ACTIVITY AIDE
Position: Activity Aide, Casual (Evening shifts: 1:00pm-7:30pm or 1:30pm-7:30pm)
Home: Regency LTC
Location: Port-Hope, ON
As an Activity Aid, you will assist in the planning, organizing, and leading of recreational, social, and therapeutic activities for residents. Your role will be vital in promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being through activities that are enjoyable and meaningful. You will work closely with other staff members to ensure that each resident's individual needs and preferences are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and implementation of individualized and group activities that align with residents' interests and needs.
- Lead or assist with recreational programs, such as arts and crafts, games, exercise programs, music therapy, and outings.
- Ensure residents' participation in activities, fostering a fun and inclusive atmosphere.
- Document resident attendance and activity participation, tracking progress and outcomes.
- Promote social interaction and engagement among residents, encouraging positive relationships.
- Work closely with the nursing team to support residents with special needs and ensure their safety and well-being during activities.
- Maintain a clean and organized activity space, ensuring that all materials and equipment are in good condition.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university.
- Previous experience in a long-term care or healthcare setting is an asset.
- Passion for working with older adults and enhancing their quality of life.
- Ability to plan, organize, and lead a variety of activities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassionate, patient, and empathetic with a genuine desire to make a difference in residents' lives.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
