WHAT WILL YOU DO

Reporting to the Manager, Baggage Services, you will oversee and coordinate updates to baggage handling systems, including software changes and system trials. Your role will involve developing and reviewing test plans, leading testing efforts, and reporting on outcomes to both internal and external stakeholders. You will also be responsible for managing obsolete inventory and replacement parts, ensuring the functionality and safety of the baggage system, and supporting ongoing improvements. Additionally, you will participate in safety inspections, assist with resolving issues, and work with the safety team to implement solutions. Your expertise in troubleshooting and system optimization will be key to enhancing efficiency and ensuring smooth baggage operations.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Oversee and coordinate updates for baggage handling systems, including activation tests and trials for new systems.
  • Develop and review test plans for software changes, organize tests, direct work, determine pass/fail criteria, and report outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Facilitate cleanup of obsolete inventory and manage replacement parts.
  • Participate in projects involving baggage system functions, impacts, and operations, escalating as needed.
  • Participate in safety walk inspections, access maintenance locations, coordinate with the Safety team, and track/escalate items.
  • Monitor baggage handling system for continuous improvement, analyze issues, and facilitate solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and streamline systems using mechanical expertise, analyzing performance and improving system flow and error handling.
  • Manage preventative maintenance frequencies, work safety procedures, and permits.
  • Develop and amend job tasks and schedules for new equipment.
  • Assist in the scope of work development for various contracts to meet required performance.
  • Create and maintain documentation for training contractors, partners, agencies, and other YYC employees.
  • Manage contract performance and develop maintenance programs, ensuring contractors meet expectations and recommending improvements.
  • Conduct facility tours to enhance operations knowledge and demonstrate system functions.
  • Attend and participate in meetings with stakeholders on baggage operations and related systems.
  • Facilitate repair, calibration, and certification of weight devices.
  • Contribute to budgeting and project delivery processes.
  • Develop and maintain baggage system procedures, ensuring accuracy through reviews and inspections.
  • Review and approve building permit and shutdown requests with respect to baggage operations.
  • Assist with report development to identify areas for improvement impacting guests and partners.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING

  • The ability to gain and maintain a RAIC (RAIC Program and Application Information)
  • Post-secondary Diploma or Certification in Aviation Operations, Logistics, Transportation Management or Mechanical Systems is preferred. Alternatively, a high school diploma combined with relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 1+ years of experience in coordinating complex operations, preferably in airport operations, or a similarly regulated, operational environments. This includes managing operational workflows, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and coordinating personnel and equipment across multiple functions.
  • Understand and adhere to OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) guidelines, including identifying hazards, following safety protocols, using personal protective equipment (PPE), participating in safety training, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Experience with high or low-level controls.
  • Knowledge of Incident Command practices.
  • Experience with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and ensuring optimal operation.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills with the ability to deal with multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Advanced knowledge in MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, TEAM’s).
  • Ability to be on call on a rotational basis as needed.

WHAT OPTIONAL ELEMENTS SUPPORT YOUR APPLICATION (all are assets)

  • Bilingual in English or French.
  • Proficiency in VB/Python programming, web development, and virtual machine management, with practical experience beyond basic knowledge, is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of technical systems and software development is also a key asset.
