WHAT WILL YOU DO

You will work with a close-knit crew and operate a wide range of unique equipment used to maintain all surfaces of YYC’s airfield, groundside and various operationally required facilities. The primary focus of this role is snow removal and de-icing of the runways and aprons. Other work will vary depending on need and may include the following:

WHATS THE TEAM LIKE

Our Airfield Equipment Operators are an integral part of our entire airfield operations team. They go above and beyond to ensure our airport’s roadways, grounds, parking facilities, runways, taxiways and aprons are well maintained for seamless operations. This team has the exciting opportunity to operate unique airport-specific equipment in the fast-paced and operationally critical environment of our airport’s backyard.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Winter Specific: Snow and ice control to maintain all airport surface structures utilizing heavy, medium, light and specialized equipment such as runway sweepers, loaders and skid steers, snow blowers, plow trucks, dump trucks and graders.
  • Summer Specific: Surface repair of asphalt, concrete, gravel roadways and pavement utilizing equipment such as patch trucks, concrete cutters, rollers, plate tampers, jack hammers, graders, and specialized chemicals.
  • Summer Specific: Surface preparation, measurement, installation and application of surface markings utilizing equipment as required.
  • Summer Specific: Campus wide Vegetation Management and surface maintenance, utilizing various equipment ranging from light to heavy such as push mowers, weed trimmers, small mowers, large mowers and tractors.
  • Assisting with repair and maintenance of fences, gates and signage year-round as required.
  • Participate in the Airport FOD (Foreign Object Debris) control programs.
  • Completing minor equipment maintenance and ensure equipment is always ready to operate properly, including pre and post trip inspections, washing equipment, runway broom and plow blade changes.
  • Operate commercial buses for Airport tours or emergency situations to safety transport passengers.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING

  • The ability to gain and maintain a RAIC (RAIC Program and Application Information)
  • 1-3 years’ experience and competency in heavy equipment operation
  • Have and be able to maintain a Valid Class 1 or 3 Driver’s license with air brake endorsement
  • Ability to obtain a Radio Operators Certificate- Aeronautical
  • Ability to work a rotating shift schedule in adverse weather conditions and be on call
  • Ability to sit in and operate equipment for potentially extended periods of time
  • Must possess a Strong safety focus, and demonstrate this through decisions and behaviours
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction and implement specific instructions in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others in a team environment and communicate effectively in a fast paced operational setting
  • Demonstrated ability to represent our Crew in a positive, professional, efficient and productive manner at all times
  • Meet requirements of a safety-sensitive position, including pre-employment drug and alcohol testing

WHAT OPTIONAL ELEMENTS SUPPORT YOUR APPLICATION (all are assets)
