WHAT WILL YOU DO

The Structural Coordinator provides expert oversight for structural projects, tenant improvements, and various structural components within the terminal. This role ensures the structural integrity of airport facilities through active support and coordination of building construction and restoration projects. The position is responsible for managing contracts, conducting inspections, and ensuring contractors complete critical structural work according to specifications and safety standards.

WHATS THE TEAM LIKE

The facility maintenance team ensures the smooth operation of all indoor spaces at the busy 24/7 airport, keeping terminals, offices, and other buildings safe, functional, and well-maintained. They handle repairs, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general upkeep to support airport operations and passenger comfort. Their work is critical to maintaining a clean, efficient, and welcoming environment for travelers and staff.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provide structural and construction expertise and oversight to all Airport Development structural related projects, including roof systems, doors and door hardware, painted surfaces, wall construction, floor finishes, ceiling finishes, signage, washrooms, and millwork.
  • Conduct inspections and report on structural component deficiencies.  
  • Coordinate material and labour resources, monitoring and evaluating the maintenance, repair and restoration of structural facilities, components and equipment, ensuring that they are maintained in a safe, cost effective and efficient operating condition at all times.
  • Work with project managers on base building and tenant fit ups or renovations.
  • Review plans and blueprints, attend meetings, make recommendations, complete site inspections and sign off with Project Managers.
  • Inspect, report on, coordinate and implement structural maintenance, repair and project activities, working in conjunction with all other team members. 
  • Review and update Maximo preventative maintenance, repair and project work orders.
  • Ensure accuracy of all as-built drawings through review and site inspections along with coordination with proper disciplines.
  • Review tenant and base building plans for compliance with current codes and base building standards.
  • Act as an advisor and subject matter expert for structural components in Capital and O&M projects.
  • In conjunction with Tenant Development, review plans, make recommendations, review the process, start-up meetings, final walkthrough sign off, conflict resolution. Meet with tenants on project start-up and resolve any concerns that may occur. 
  • Investigate, research, and trouble shoot materials and equipment.  Provide budgeting and material/equipment recommendations for Structural Facilities’ repair, maintenance, restoration and capital projects.
  • Manage Structural Facility contracts, ensure scope of work is met, review the performance, and establish maintenance standards and procedures.
  • Negotiate and resolve minor conflicts between airlines, tenants, developers and operations to reach the desired goals of the Structural Facilities Department.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of maintenance frequencies, work safe procedures, hot work permits, shut down forms and scope of work for contracts.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING

  • The ability to gain and maintain a RAIC (RAIC Program and Application Information)
  • 3+ years’ experience in civil or structural engineering with experience in coordination of a large-scale facility.
  • A post-secondary diploma in Civil or Structural Engineering Technology is required.
  • Experience with project management and contract management.
  • Strong working knowledge of structural systems and components including, building construction, components, finishes, carpentry, flooring, tile, and roofing. 
  • Ability to work with various stakeholders including internal employees, tenants, contractors and regulatory bodies. 
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and single line drawings.
