Senior Director, Payer Accounts
About the Role:
The Senior Director, Payer Accounts is a key member of the Market Access leadership team and responsible for developing and maintaining effective field engagement along with the spectrum of key customers (National & Regional Commercial Plans, Medicare Part D and Advantage Plans, FFS State Medicaid, Managed Medicaid plans, and HCP offices) to secure optimal product coverage and patient access to Xenon products. The Sr./Ex. Director will work closely with Commercial (Sales, Marketing, Market Access, Analytics), to develop access strategies, ensure goal alignment, and meet corporate objectives. It will be imperative for the Sr./Ex. Director to ensure effective communication and collaboration between the Xenon payer field team and other functions including, but not limited to Distribution, Pricing/Contracting, HEOR/RWE, Patient Services, Field Sales, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Finance, Legal, and Compliance.
This position reports to the Vice President, Market Access and will be based out of our Boston, USA office in Needham, MA. We will consider other jurisdictions for exceptional candidates. The level of the position will be commensurate with the candidate’s education and industry experience. This role is a remote, field-based position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Hire and manage the national account team focused on national/regional payer accounts (commercial and government)
- Establish access goals, productivity measures, MBOs and plans of action for teams
- Ensure account plans are created and executed annually
- Profile payer accounts to assess formulary review and coverage policies, utilization controls, and level of influence. Track changes in payer policies pre and post product approval
- Implement strategic initiatives aimed toward achieving optimal coverage and reimbursement of Xenon products
- Work collaboratively with Medical Affairs to ensure value proposition and HEOR data is appropriately communicated to target audiences
- Present team plans and results at Launch Readiness Reviews and Quarterly Business Reviews
- Develop and present business cases for contracting and lead negotiation process
- Participates in strategic planning and forecasting. Provides market insights, trends, competitive activity and conditions of the access environment.
- Collaborate compliantly with field sales and medical to ensure goal alignment and execution
- Represent Xenon at Key Industry Conferences (e.g. AMCP, Asembia, PCMA)
- Partner with the data and analytics team to maximize usage of data and reports that enable a higher level of customer/account service.
- Ensure team adheres to all company policies and compliance training, as well as other legal and regulatory directives
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree a plus
- Minimum of 12 years market access experience in biotech/pharmaceuticals with at least 5 years leading field-facing teams
- Knowledge of US payer coverage and reimbursement systems (Private and Government at the federal, state and local levels), regulatory changes as a result of the Affordable Care Act, and pharmaceutical channel dynamics
- Proven track record for securing and improving product coverage and reimbursement via communications and contracting across private and government payers, pharmacies, and organized customers.
- Experience launching pharmacy benefit products in competitive retail and specialty markets
- Outstanding customer relationship building skills with ability to work with a diverse audience and influence cross-functionally
- Strong analytical skills with proven ability to effectively analyze data to determine trends and inform strategy
- People and organizational skills to lead, build and develop a team; track record of successfully developing top talent
- Exceptional team-oriented leader with excellent communication and influencing skills and a collaborative work style

- Up to travel 50% will be required based upon business needs
The base salary range for this role is $267,000 to $306,800 USD; we will consider above this range for exceptional candidates. Base salary is determined by a combination of factors including, but not limited to, education and other qualifications, years of relevant experience, and internal equity.
