Job Purpose:
The People Manager, Agile Centre is a servant leader who is responsible for overseeing, coaching and mentoring members of the Agile Centre. They will be expected to help bring their staffs’ highest value to their responsibilities. Their responsibilities include bringing focus to their team members and ensuring they have the capacity, capabilities, tools and necessary training to do their work. In addition, the People Manager will work with each team member to set goals and plan for professional development. The People Manager will work closely with Directors, Product Managers, Product Owners, Scrum Masters and business stakeholders to ensure alignment and growth is a part of each team member’s career journey and experience.
Responsibilities:
- Accomplishes department objectives by managing staff; planning and evaluating department activities.
- Coaches, counsels, and provides direct feedback to employees.
- Creates and manages personal growth plans for each employee.
- Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
- Establishes strategic goals by gathering pertinent business, financial, service, and operations information.
- Defines objectives, identifies and evaluates trends and options, chooses a course of action, and evaluates outcomes.
- Accomplishes financial objectives by forecasting internal and external staffing requirements, budgeting and managing staff expenditures (including training, team building, personal expenses), and initiating corrective actions.
- Develops, coordinates, and enforces systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
- Recruits and onboards staff (full-time, contractors and outsourcing), selecting, orienting, and mentoring employees.
- Vendor onboarding, management and communication.
- Ensures a safe, secure, and legal work environment.
- Develops and models an Agile mindset.
- Supports Director in overseeing delivery
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in people leadership (Director, Manager, Lead)
- 5+ years experience working with cross-functional software development teams
- 3- 5 years of experience working in an Agile environment understanding Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban.
- 3 – 5 years of experience working directly with Agile teams and roles such as Scrum Masters, Product Owners.
- Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written.
- Systems & creative thinker with the ability to provide solutions that meet employee needs.
- Highly collaborative and comfortable with both high-level planning and tactical execution.
- Ability to handle criticisms and/or justify decisions. Expects major objections. Has experience navigating through conflicting priorities, turning ambiguity into clarity in a fast-changing environment.
- Experience creating detailed business cases to equip senior leadership decision making
Strong ability to manage financials and strategic execution (budgets, ROIs, resource allocation and multiple concurrent projects) - Able to navigate the organization and influence through indirect leadership and relationship capital
- Embraces a non-hierarchical approach, modelling transparency, collaboration and trust across the team
- Other personal attributes: ambitious, assertive, energetic, enthusiastic, confident, optimistic, inquisitive, persuasive, and motivational.
- Nonprofit experience would be an asset.
- Familiarity with web development, digital marketing and data analysis practices and platforms would be an asset
- Proven ability to leverage data and analytics to inform decision-making in talent management, performance evaluations and workforce planning.
- Skilled in interpreting people-related metrics (e.g. engagement, turnover, productivity) to identify trends, develop strategies, and measure the impact of initiatives.
- Experience in using people analytics tools and dashboards to create actionable insights that drive organization success.
- Strong capability to balance data-driven insights with empathy and interpersonal skills to enhance team development and collaboration.
