Nursing - Nurse
Wood's Homes is looking for one (1) full time Nurse to join our Nursing program.
Summary:
Reporting to a designated Manager or Director—and in collaboration with agency treatment staff—the Nurse is responsible for coordinating, providing, and ensuring quality health care to all clients residing in a Wood’s Homes program. The Nurse will also work with medical, hospital and community services to provide quality health care support, continuity, education, and follow up for children, youth, and their families. The Nurse will demonstrate due diligence in being Exceptional in the delivery of high-quality services and in meeting the requirements of the Health and Safety Management System at Wood’s Homes.

Key Responsibilities:
- Functions/Tasks and Key Responsibilities
- Supports the overall functioning of health clinics. This involves developing a system for managing medication supplies and the preparation of medication for clients, medical records, processing of Critical Medical Incidents, and annual immunization clinics for clients and staff.
- Processes physicians orders and ensures recommended treatment and investigative procedures are carried out. Ensures that a medical and health discharge summary on each client is included in a discharge/transfer report and/or forwarded to the referring physician.
- Coordinates medical and other health care professional appointments within Wood’s Homes and in the community; attends medical appointments with clients when needed; collaborates with program staff to ensure that health information is obtained and documented; ensures developmental assessments are conducted as required.
- In conjunction with program staff, develops nursing care plans for clients based on identified health needs and communicates this information to the Wood’s physician/psychiatric consultant as requested.
- Attends rounds, case management reviews, and/or other activities related to a clients care as required.
- Liaises with medical and other health care professionals/clinical and program staff at Wood's Homes and in the community to ensure the highest standards of health care are available and provided to all clients; coordinates and documents connections with community resources in providing care to clients.
- Provides medication orientation and training for all new staff and on an annual basis for all program staff.
- Collaborates with other nursing staff to provide in-services related to health teaching for staff and clients based on identified learning needs and on request.
- Provides learning opportunities for nursing and other students as requested.
- Maintains statistical records related to nursing activities. Participates in research studies as established by senior management.
- Works in accordance with both the Health Professions Act and Policies and Procedures of Wood's Homes. Identifies quality improvement issues and participates in the development and review of policies and procedures as requested by management.
- Completes all required health and safety training.
- Reports workplace hazards, unsafe or unhealthy conditions, or incidents (including near misses, injuries, or equipment damage) to their direct supervisor.

Qualifications
- Education, Training, Diplomas and Certifications Needed
- Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing, Licensed Practical or Nursing required. Bachelor of Nursing preferred.
- Eligibility for registration with CARNA, Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association or College of Licensed Practical Nursing of Alberta required.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Full class 5 driver’s license or class 5 GDL driver’s license with $2 million liability insurance.
- Drivers Abstract with no more than 6 demerits.
- Work Experience Needed
- Experience in a live- in treatment setting with children, youth and families is an asset.
