Blood and Feather Operator
The Blood and Feather Operator is responsible for operating the blood and feather equipment, controlling temperatures, moisture content, pressures, and other modes of equipment to ensure high quality finished products. Maintaining and enforcing safety precautions, standard operating procedures, and proper records of activity are also important tasks of this role.
The hourly rate is $30.00/hr.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate the feather hydrolyser, blood coagulator, centrifuge, dryers, hammer mill and blood meal suction system in an effective manner
- Monitor the entire system to ensure CCP standards are met
- Collect hourly samples of blood and feather meal to check for proper moisture content
- May be asked to safely operate forklifts and other hoisting devices when necessary
- Control motors, drag chain speeds, pumps, conveyors, fans, and various other equipment
- Maintain feather and blood meal flows through dryers to milling at a desired moisture setting
- Maintain a blood/feather cooking log sheet on an hourly basis
- Control product flow, internal steam pressures, and other operations in accordance to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Ensure a clean work space and safety precautions when working with equipment
- Perform shift work based on company business needs which evolve and change in response to customer demands
- Work overtime as instructed to ensure minimal downtime of facilities
- Adhere to the company Code of Conduct and all West Coast Reduction Ltd. policies
- Foster a positive team and company culture by ensuring treatment of others is respectful and aligned with company values
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS & FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Possession of a valid Class 4 Power Engineer certification
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, with excellent communication skills
- Ability to read or interpret diagrams, schematic drawings and manuals to determine work procedures
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve related process issues
Functional Requirements
- Ability to frequently move, carry, lift, push and pull equipment up to 50 lbs without assistance and occasionally greater with assistance
- Perform repetitive motions including bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing and reaching overhead above the shoulders daily
- Adaptable to adverse conditions including confined space, heights, cold weather, odours and exposure to animal by-products
