Based at our Lethbridge plant location, the Class 1 Driver is responsible for loading and unloading Specified Risk Materials (SRM) and Non-SRM, receiving hides, servicing Sunrise Poultry, and maintaining a clean and safe work space. The role requires the delivery of exceptional customer service when interacting with customers. Often viewed as the face of the Company, Drivers are expected to act professionally both on the road and at locations of service when dealing with customers and the public.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Service and switch trailers at Sunrise Poultry as required
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspection checks on mobile equipment
  • Load Specified Risk Materials (SRM) and Non-SRM into conveyances
  • Receive afternoon hide conveyances
  • Perform plant shut down and clean up procedures
  • Maintain tools and equipment, and an overall clean and safe working environment
  • Adhere to strict requirements related to cleanliness and safe operations
  • Report issues or concerns related to vehicle maintenance, damaged containers and/or equipment or Customer to the Manager in a timely manner
  • Follow safety protocols and other procedures as dictated by WCRL or the customer’s requirements
  • Perform shift work based on company business needs which evolve and change in response to customer demands
  • Work overtime as instructed to ensure minimal downtime of facilities
  • Adhere to the company Code of Conduct and all West Coast Reduction Ltd. policies
  • Foster a positive team and company culture by ensuring treatment of other is respectful and aligned with company values
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Possession of a valid Class 1 Driver’s License with a clean abstract
  • 3 years of experience in commercial truck driving or a similar environment an asset
  • Familiarity with operating hydraulic equipment required
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to read or interpret diagrams, schematic drawings and manuals to determine work procedures
  • Ability to frequently move, carry, lift, push and pull equipment up to 50 lbs without assistance and occasionally greater with assistance
  • Physically capable of lifting trailer lids, climbing ladders, and other heavy tools on a frequent basis
  • Perform repetitive motions including bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing and reaching overhead above the shoulders daily
  • Adaptable to adverse conditions including confined space, height, cold weather, odours, and animal by-products
