THE ROLE
We are actively looking for a student to join our Corporate Finance team for an 8-month internship. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Financial Reporting team, and will report to the Associate Director, Financial Controls and Reporting. Responsibilities will include supporting various functions such as financial statement preparation, analytical support, innovation, and continuous improvement on processes.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a student to gain valuable work experience in a fast-growing, dynamic environment while being a part of a new pension plan.
UPP is based in Toronto’s financial district and has a hybrid work model (minimum 2 days / week in office).
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Prepare financial statement notes and populate the financial statements template.
- Assist with benchmarking analysis for financial statements.
- Prepare preliminary mid-year performance reports for key stakeholders.
- Conduct accounting research and prepare technical accounting memos, particularly for newly released accounting standards.
- Prepare quarterly Statistics Canada reports.
- Collaborate with the team on PowerPoint presentations, proposing improvements in formatting, charting, and graphics.
- Research and help monitor sustainable reporting practices for reporting purposes.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Business, majoring in Financial Accounting. Preference for 3rd or 4th-year undergraduate students.
- Interest in obtaining a CPA or CFA designation is a plus.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills (formulas, pivots, etc.).
- Experience with SQL, Python, and real-world automations is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practical month-end reporting (journal entries, trial balance, variance analysis).
- Foundational knowledge of and keen interest in finance, sustainable reporting and investments.
