How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:

The Sustainable Neighborhood Action Program (SNAP) is a proven solution for sustainable urban renewal that places neighborhoods at the center of the implementation framework. Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) has developed SNAP to help municipalities improve efficiencies, draw strong community support, and build implementation partnerships for a broad range of initiatives in the public and private realms. The Program Manager, Sustainable Neighborhoods, works in collaboration with various TRCA Teams, residents, municipalities, partners and stakeholders to oversee and deliver high-quality programming within Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) local neighborhoods. The role includes the management of community engagement initiatives, staff supervision, project financial reporting, and partnership development while providing subject matter technical expertise and contributing to project execution.

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Designs and guides strategic community and/or stakeholder engagement strategies 
  • With supervision, prepares, manages and controls program budgets and financial reporting
  • Engages and works in collaboration with program staff, TRCA divisions and external partners, stakeholders, working groups or committees to maximize resources and program impact
  • Oversees the coordination and drafting of grant applications and funding proposals for specific projects, including non-traditional funding sources and partnerships to achieve mutual objectives
  • Maintains current knowledge of program area, funding and partnership approaches and infuses innovation into program enhancements
  • Evaluates program delivery effectiveness and efficiencies and undertake ongoing improvements. This involves tracking industry best practice and programs in relation to targeted indicators and outcomes
  • Manages and hosts training events, workshops, community events, or seminars related to program area
  • Communicates with team members regularly to assess workload and status of activities, amends work and reassigns staff as needed to direct workflow and accommodate for any situational circumstances  
  • Facilitates recruitment and onboarding of staff, providing on-the-job training and support as needed. Manages and evaluates employee performance, identifying areas for improvement in training, development, processes, resources, and procedures to enhance team effectiveness.
  • Synthesizes community and partner insights to recommend strategic approaches for sustainable urban renewal, developing action plans, designing programs, and executing implementation strategies that drive social and environmental impact.

 

What will you need to succeed:

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Geography, Natural Sciences, Water Resources, or a related field
  • Valid Ontario Class G2 driver's license

 

Experience

  • 4+ years of experience in program management, in relevant field
  • 1+ years of progressive managerial, supervisory or project management experience
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and/ or writing technical drawings and/or reports
  • Experience managing relationships / working with sponsors, government representatives or in partnerships
  • Experience in urban sustainability (e.g., energy and water), urban food security or homeowner engagement.

 

Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and analytical skills to communicate with various audiences, prepare reports and write proposals
  • Able to self-manage workload and prioritize tasks as an ongoing challenge in a frequently fluctuating workload and multiple deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member to coach staff and work with stakeholders (internally and externally); ability to deal tactfully and courteously with stakeholders, public officials
  • Strong budget management and cost control skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, WebEx, and SharePoint
