Responsible for the overall long-term financial direction of the organization, the Controller will provide oversight to the Finance team to deliver accurate and timely financial data to support strategic planning, forecasting, budgeting, performance evaluation and operational decision-making. This position will drive the modernization, centralization, and implementation of strategic financial processes and systems. The Controller will be responsible for maintaining strict adherence to accounting and control practices and procedures, policies, while safeguarding financial assets, ensuring robust governance and optimizing the efficient and effective use of financial resources. The Controller will provide strong managerial support, operational and organizational recommendations, clear communication, and customer service for all stakeholders, including boards and committees and senior leadership.
The ideal candidate will bring 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in accounting and finance, preferably within the broader public sector. The successful candidate is a subject matter expert in legislative and accounting standards, reporting, auditing, and procurement related disciplines. A professional accounting designation is required, coupled with the ability to understand complex financial and management matters and communicate them with a broad stakeholder group. The successful candidate will exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills with the proven ability to present at senior leadership and board levels. This individual will leverage their political acumen, decision-making and advanced problem-solving skills to play a critical role in impacting the future health and livability of the Greater Toronto bioregion.
