How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
The Technologist, Engineering provides technical advice, planning, coordination and intergration support; playing an integral role in the delivery of infrastructure and construction projects.
Major Responsibilities:
- Works with construction site supervisors and teams to ensure adherence with project plans; provides advice to execute on site changes under the direction of the project lead.
- Provides support to the project lead relating to the day-to-day management of contractors during construction implementation.
- Works with teams to ensure compliance with plan design, health and safety and other regulatory requirements.
- Conducts site visits including project start up, progress of implementation, contingency planning and close out.
- Assists the Project Lead in the review of project proposals to identify irregularities, ensuring compliance with TRCA policies and procedures.
- Maintains and organizes digitized files to support the Project Team including daily inspection reports.
- Contributes to the development and implementation of industry best practices, more efficient construction processes and procedures and the innovative use of new technology.
- Prepares and formats correspondence, project briefs and reports of a general and technical nature for both internal and external audiences
- Coordinates the full scope of procurement of project supplies and contractor services, including preparation and completion of RFT’s, RFP’s, VOR’s, etc.
- Meets with internal and external stakeholders as required for project specific collaboration and public consultation on request.
What will you need to succeed:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction/Contract Management or a related field or equivalent experience
- Valid Ontario Class G2 driver's license
Experience
- 3+ years of experience in civil or environmental construction
Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies
- Able to comprehend documentation that is technical or scientific in nature, skilled in writing technical reports or manuals
- Experience with end-to-end procurement processes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate project status for various audiences
- Knowledge of best management practices, and up-to-date knowledge of mitigation and controls, as well as safe work procedures
- Able to self-manage workload and prioritize tasks as an ongoing challenge in a frequently fluctuating workload and multiple deadlines
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act
- Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, WebEx, and SharePoint; advanced MS Excel capabilities for analysis, data visualization
