Current Rate of Pay: Min = $36.68/hr, Max = $42.51/hr

Employment type: Temporary Contract

Duration of employment:1 year

Hours of work: 40 hrs/week

Travel: 5% - Travel to Various site locations

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:

The Lead Hand, Construction Projects carries out construction activities on environmental, engineering, construction and forestry, and maintenance projects for assigned sub-project elements.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Performs hazard assessments relevant to changes in type of work and site conditions; takes required action to mitigate identified hazards and reports all relevant information for project area
  • Coordinates with supervisory staff for staffing and equipment requirements for project area(s)
  • Interprets technical drawings and plans, and then use basic surveying or other skills applicable to the program to lay out the site and ensure that deliverables meet the specified levels of accuracy for assigned project area
  • Supports management with all onsite emergencies, assessing situations, providing direction to all visitors and staff, documentation and reporting all occurrences
  • Participates in and/or leads the daily safety meetings (in absence of site supervisor) including tailgate meetings, hazard identification and emergency planning
  • Incumbents may also be assigned other duties

 

 

What will you need to succeed:

Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Resource/ Environmental/ Construction Management or related field or equivalent experience
  • Valid Ontario Class G2 driver's license
  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C Certification

 

Experience

  • 3+ years experience in a construction or restoration environment
  • Experience and training heavy and light equipment operations and small handheld power tools

 

Knowledge/Skill/Ability – Competencies

  • Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret and apply forestry, engineering and landscape architectural plans, drawings, details and specifications
  • Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise communication in both non-emergency and emergency situations
  • Understanding and application of basic mathematical functions (e.g., adding, subtracting, measuring, money computation)
  • Demonstrates responsive to internal and external customer requests and needs
  • Ability to use critical thinking to evaluate problems, gather information, understand causes, and identify best possible solutions
  • Collaborates with others to focus on objectives and effectively delegates work within a team
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, WebEx, and SharePoint
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, related Regulations and legislation
