How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
The Education Interpreter & Site Representative delivers hands-on education outdoor environmental programs to overnight and day groups of visitors to TRCA’ sites and facilities.
Major Responsibilities:
- Greets and welcomes visitors, outlining facility and/or grounds usage and protocols, completing all administrative procedures
- Learns program content to be able to effectively deliver interactive programs to various audiences
- Ensures program equipment/supplies and/or artifacts are not damaged in execution of third-party program/location usage etc.
- Assist the food service staff in providing and delivering meals as required
- Provide on-site coordination and caretaking of the facility and/or grounds and all assets and materials used
- Opens and securely closes site/facility as required following TRCA protocols and initiates emergency protocols when needed
What will you need to succeed:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)
- Minimum pursuing a post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation, Outdoor Recreation, Education, or a related field
- Valid Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C Certification
- Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Screening. Employees/candidates under the age of eighteen (18) years are not eligible to have a VSS, therefore will not be required
Experience
- 2+ years of experience delivering outdoor recreation programs for audiences of varying age groups
Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies
- Ability to communicate effectively with tact and courtesy plus, deliver programs/information to audiences of various ages, adapting style to ensure audience appropriateness
- Knowledge of the environment and related disciplines
- Demonstrated aptitude for organization and time management
- Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise communication in both non-emergency and emergency situations
- Ability to work independently and take initiative within a set of guidelines and procedures, and to take direction and notes when given
- Effective customer services skills, with the ability to use judgement to address unexpected situations
- Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, WebEx, and SharePoint
- Must be flexible to work all required shifts, including weekends and holidays, as well as overnight work including successive days
