Animal Care Worker - PT (12 hours/week) and PT (15 hours/week)

Job Summary
Under the direction of the Shelter Supervisors, Animal Care Workers (ACWs) provide animals in the care of the Society with professional, conscientious, compassionate care, meeting physical and behavioural needs including ensuring constant cleanliness of cages/runs and shelter areas and the proper feeding, care and enrichment of shelter animals.
Job Duties
- Daily cleaning of animal housing areas
- Assisting with enrichment of animals
- Performing daily evaluations of animals
- Cleaning of various areas of shelter facility
- Daily feeding of animals
- Ensuring that proper husbandry requirements of each animal
are being met - Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with donors, employees, clients/customers, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
- Foster, promote, support and drive inclusion and influence others to promote, embrace and progress Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Toronto Humane Society
- Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, and in-service training to further personal education, skills, and training as required
- Be aware of and work within the regulations of all Toronto Humane Society policies and protocols.
- Work cooperatively with all volunteers and recognize the talent and commitment they bring to the Society
- Work in compliance with the provisions of the Ontario Health and Safety Act and its regulations, including understanding and adhering to the requirements of the Health and Safety Manual, and any other rules and regulations established by Toronto Humane Society
- Other duties as required in the day-to-day operation of the organization
Job Requirements
- Animal care experience and knowledge is an asset
- Must be able to perform manual labour
- Knowledge of disease transmission is an asset
- Must be comfortable working with and handling animals
A valid Ontario G driver’s license is an asset. Must be able to lift up to 25lbs.
- Working in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.
- Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse
environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, odors, noise extremes, hazardous materials, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal attacks, animal bites, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude/irate customers.
